I made a top cover that I simply love. It stays on for all except for the hottest months. It is a diamond shape of dwr. It is about 2 inches bigger than the netting. it attached with six 3 inch pieces of omni tape. 2 at the suspension and 4 at the tie outs. The omni tape is just sewn on the hem and pinched on the perspective lines.
Works great at heat retention and keeping mist, fog, and blowing snow off me. Never had a problem with condensation.
I have been meaning to do a vid, maybe I will get to that soon.
That is what I was after thank you.
I would like to see a video on it dutch if you get around to it.
Another thumbs up for the BBO top cover. I use mine during shoulder season and it is very effective.
Hey Dutch,
What kind of material did you use for your DYI Top Cover?
Dutch, I was trying to sneak a peek at yours at mahha, no luck. Didn't want to intrude on your tarp either. I really want to make something like this for the winter. Is there sufficient way to do it without using velcro or omni tape?
I'm all about the BBO but $75 is real steep. Almost half the price of my 1.1 dbl and more than half the price of my 1.0 single.
Maybe a sock would be easier to build.
I used 1.1 that I impregnated with silicone. I mixed silicone caulk with mineral spirits 1:5 ratio and soaked it. If making sil nylon is more than you wanted to get into, you could just use any 1.1 with dwr. Actually the dwr has done very little for me because I use a pretty big tarp so I don't rally get spray, but a little snow.
Dude I love to show off my gear. I was thinking, what is wrong with this Chad fella that he doesn't want to come over and see my set up? Thought you were a snob.:)
I'm not sure why you are against the omnitape but you could use snaps or just some string. I'm not sewing the omnitape to the hammock, just the over cover itself.
I will see if I can get a vid done real soon.
I think the top cover would be a little bit easier than a sock, not much, but some.
