Heck yeah I am interested! I missed the Spring NEHHA :(, I don't plan on missing the Fall NEHHA!
I'm going to be up in the Whites Oct 13-20.
I could be up for another hang. I forget who mentioned this, but one of the Spring group talked with a ranger and he suggested another State Forest nearby that offered similar camping facilities. Maybe someone knows whether that got checked out.
Joe
I believe that was R3l@x that talked to them. I was hoping to hear from him already. Raiffnuke do you think you could check in with him?
No problem. I sent him a PM.
Hey Guys,
I did talk to the park people and if we want to do western MA they suggested another nearby state forest-
http://www.mass.gov/dcr/parks/western/dubq.htm
The two requests I received from a couple of people were for a hike-in hang and an easy hike so that we don't exclude anyone.
It's fairly level going in and around a 2 mile hike no matter which parking area you use. There is also water at the site. I'm away on vaca right now but there is a pdf map at the link above and I think it was the moody spring shelter I was looking at. I can hike in and check it out ahead of time if this is what everyone wants to try.
As for when... I have a week long Sept. trip on the Allagash in Maine and I did something stupid and signed up for a Toughmudder in Oct that I'm training for. Late August works best for me but I can work Sept/Oct in also depending on the weekend. I'll let others chime in on when.
August is booked for me. I am going out sometime in Sept with my Wife but the date hasnt been set yet. And the last week of sept and last week of Oct are both scouts so they are booked. Other that that I am open to anything.
Looking at what we have posted so far I'm going to throw out Sept. 21-23 and Oct. 5-7. Let's see what the consensus is...
That will work for me.
That's going to be Columbus Day weekend, That's going to be tough for me. Can't make a commitment at this time.
Joe
I'm interested but it will totally depend on my work schedule. Hike in or drive in I'm alright with either.
I've added a second date in Sept. and I'll try to p.m. a few of the people that wanted to go for some more feedback.
John,
I had a stroke on June 12. But, you can count me in whatever the date or location. Thanks again for the sheath.
fred
Sorry to here that Fred. Hope your feeling better and I'm glad your still going to be able to make it.
Stay tuned for more info. I might go up to the site this weekend for an overnight to check it out. Because of the Holiday I'm hearing Sept. 21-23 might be the better date for this.
I was wondering when someone would get this going.....
I can be in for either date, but only tentative. I have some family stuff going on and may require travel at short notice.
But other than that all sounds good to me!
Isnt it still summer in september? not that thats a bad thing.
Sept. 21 to 23 would work for me. On the map it looked like a dirt road going close to Moody Spring. Something you might want to look at if you get ups there.
Joe
Well, either dates work for me so far, but the October dates look way better at the moment. I work at a college, and September is usually a pretty hectic month for me.

Chaaaz,
While on my bike, went blind in right eye. Rode the 60mi's home took an aspirin and went to the ER. Started getting vision back while waiting for the quacks to check me out. Over the next 3 days they did every test, scan and probe known to man. MRI confirmed stroke. They don't have a clue what caused.
As it stands now, I regained all but 10% of peripheral vision. Neurologist said I may get vision back. No other effects. I'm a lucky boy.
fred
Glad to hear you are alright. I hope to meet you, and everyone else, at the hang.
Will try but not a definite. That's my favorite time of year to hike so chances are I will be put on the LT putting miles in. We shall see...
Both dates look good to me. But I'm leaning toward September.
Sounds good to me too! I can make it in Sept if it's still open.
Fib
===> Wow. Way to soldier-on though! I am glad that it wasn't more extensive than that. Time to watch the Blood Pressure, I guess! You were pretty lucky, but then again, we ain't too easy to kill now, are we. ;D
Stay in touch ... let me know if you need anything.
Don't mean nothin'.

R3l@x were you able to get to check on the lactation you were thinking about for sept?
Sorry for the delay everyone. Messed up my knee in training and wanted to be able to hike in and maybe camp overnight.
I called on Saturday and the guy I talked to said that Dubuque State forest is still closed but to call back Monday for more info. The guy I talked to at the last hang thought it would be opened by now but I'll get an update tomorrow. If it looks like a go I'm going to do an overnighter and get a few pics of the area.
The Kings corner entrance has plenty of parking but no road access. The sign for the road points to the big gravel pile in front of my truck.
Hallockville Rd. is closed but looks passable if they open it up. There's parking for around a dozen or so cars available at the Americorps camp but couldn't find anyone around to confirm how many spots. If we end up going here I can stop back in.
Last pick is of Hawley street from when I tried to find another way in. There use of the words road and street are interesting  I never made it to the last Parking area figuring I'd wait until I have more info.
I did get to see a black bear as it tried to run in front of my truck just before I went through the town of Savoy. Sorry no pics, he was back in the woods and heading up the hill by the time I pulled over. We have a ton of them around this year.
Nice Taco John! :)
Thanks Yukon. New rims and tires coming soon :D
I have an update from Dave at Mohawk trail state forest. They are planning on having the area open by mid Sept. but there is no guarantee.
We can shoot for the Oct. 5-7 date and hope for the best or if someone has another location near them that they can check out we can change the site for this hang.
Anyone have another site near them that would work for this? I hate the thought of setting a time for the Kenneth Dubuque state forest and having it still be closed.
Sounds good trip. I may be able to make it. Might bring some potential converts.
Holy crap Fred!! I'm glad u r feeling better. I am looking forward to hanging with u all again. Made my wife her first hammock and she might be joining us this time. I should be free either date. Sept or Oct
Hey guys where are we at concerning the fall camp out. R3l@x do you need any help with the planning?
Here is my last update NightHauk. I haven't seen any post about other locations. I'm concentrating on my training right now and won't bother checking back with them until September when I get back from Maine.
Thanks for the offer of assistance. If it does open up in time the only thing I would want help with is if we were going to do a group dinner on Saturday.
Do you know of another location we could use?
All, sadly, neither date works for me, currently. The one in September, I will be at Loon Mountain for the highland games. Then, currently, the October date, that is currently our yearly band meeting-and, I would bag it, but, I am the current president, and will be stepping down that day, so, I sorta NEED to be there :). However, that date is subject to change, so I will keep an eye out on this one!
I will check with the local State Park here - Harold Parker State Forest/Park - about the possibility of a group site, or multiple adjacent sites. I camped there several times last summer, and t is a pretty good place. If things need pushing, GeneGene can also advocate for us, since he works for the DCR. I have already met the Rangers there, and worked with them as a Fishing Instructor for the State on several events last year.
I will let you know as soon as I get a chance to drop up there. It is in Andover, North Andover, Mass, and right off the highway - easy access! :D

Sounds Great! Glad to have a plan B.
I'm thinking this should be plan A for fall with the uncertainty of the KDM state forest opening. We were looking for a hike in hang with an easy 2 miles or less but I'm good with another group site hang and then try for the hiking trip in the spring.
As well as I am. And if that is the case there is always the DAR in Goshen Ma
Grout Pond in VT? USFS LINK
Or Branch Pond in VT as well? They are both easily accessible and lots of trees around them :)
Well assuming nothing changes with my work schedule I should be working both the possible dates. Oh well maybe next time. :D
Hey Yukon,
I'm not familiar with Branch Pond but was talking to the Jersey Bears and they said Grout pond was a great place for up to around 12 hangers. It's first come first serve and we have had around 20 for the last two hangs.
I'm open to Branch pond if your familiar with the site and have more information. I'm also waiting to here back from SkyPainter. I'm still looking for a plan A and holding the original site as backup. I'm going to try to get an update at the end of August.
You guys allow Yankee fans to this hang? :scared:

I'd love to hang in Mass., as long as it's not the same weekend as MAHHA.

There goes the neighborhood!
Definitely interested, assuming work schedule permits. Have this thread bookmarked; will keep an eye out for final date. Look forward to meeting local hangers and undoubtedly learning a bunch.
John, call me with updates. Im going to be limited again with internet.
Are we shooting for the Sept. date? My parents are having their 50th wedding anniversary in Oct. 6. I am now hoping for the September hang.
I would love to get away. Too bad the DAR in Goshen is booked lots of good spots there. I just drove thru last Monday and it was dead not a soul in sight but that was after everyone left I'm sure. I talked to the rangers last year and they said people do generally share well...so maybe if there is only a couple of folks camping...their group site is separate and would hold many. I could make a call. See what the situation is for peoples reservations.
