Be careful what you ask for.............it may be expensive.
I ordered one of these in aluminum and one of these and they arrived today. The price wouldn't be bad if you could pick them up at the store in PA., but the shipping is horrible.
A few minutes of lashing produced this...
Attachment 36497
A few more minutes of slipping the ends together and I had this...
Attachment 36498
Broken down and in the bag...
Attachment 36499
The weight without the bag is about 32 lbs. Each of the fifteen 4' pieces is 2.2 lbs.
This was quickly thrown together and the hang needs refining. For me, the legs need shortened or another 4' section (there are 3 left over) could be added to the ridgepole to allow me to get a proper hang angle while maintaining the correct sitting height.
The pieces slip together easily with no slop. I STRONGLY recommend drilling and pinning the joints so you can move it around (set it up) without the pieces falling apart.
I had high hopes when I ordered these and my expectations were met.:boggle:
And the final cost?
Poles, bag and pieces not used - $63.90 + shipping - $53.05 + "additional handling" - $20.00 = $136.95. OUCH:eek:
I said the shipping was bad but I just had to know.
With several people looking for a stand that would break down, I wanted to find a method and materials that didn't look hazardous to me.
That's not too awful. You'll be rewarded for taking one for the team.:)
All aluminum and feels substantial. Roughly 2 mm wall thickness and 1.75" O.D.with a slight ribbing and reinforcing rings on the open ends.
It felt very solid during my test hang with no apparent bowing of the 12' ridgepole. It's a big stand with 8' legs.
I want to stress again that the joints need drilled and pinned (or duct taped) to be readily movable when unoccupied and the legs need spread limiting cords as with all TL stands.. It's not coming apart while loaded.
This looks so sweet!
How many of the 4' poles came in the one set for the $23.95 price?
That is too funny  I will get it figured out eventually, it'll just take me longer then others.
That is just beautiful!!:boggle: Costly, but beautiful. So is the http://store.colemans.com/cart/suppo...ng-p-1884.html the center support pole?
