Chinook tarp question
I purchased a Chinook 9'6X12 tarp and don't understand the location of the grommets. Can someone please explain why they are this way or is this the second defective tarp they have sent me. The first tarp had the holes for grommets punched but no grommets. The second one has some of the grommets in places as shown in drawn attachment. It seems strange how there is not one in the middle but they are offset on opposite sides. I was also confused to find that the tarp is 2 pieces of material sewn together down the middle as opposed to 1 piece of material. Is this right? Also the second tarp I received was folded so the rubber side was together. I had to PEEL it apart almost like the whole thing was glued to itself. Weird. First one wasn't like that. I am wondering if the company ManVenturepost is selling their defects. Or do I just not understand tarps and how they are designed. Thanks and any help is greatly appreciated!

I can't give you any info on why the grommets are placed where they are but I believe mine are the same. I would advise not using grommets to tie off anyway, they are known for tearing out easily in all tarps. The best remedy is to sew on loops at the center of each end and put tarp over a the ridgeline until you do. As to the "peeling" I had the same experience the first time I used mine. Two piece design sewed down the center is normal but it should also be sealed on the underside. Chinook should be factory sealed.

Tarp
Ok, yes it is seam sealed. Sure would like to understand why grommets are placed the way they are.

Those grommet placements are certainly a bit odd. I have the same tarp and mine are in more "standard" locations.

You had to peel it apart? Sounds to me like they are selling defects for sure.
Get your money back and buy elsewhere. The Chinook is a great tarp for the price.

I don't believe mine had grommets on the long side, only off center grommets on the short side. Can't say for sure I just sold mine a few days ago here.

One center grommet on the short side, two offset on the long side. And loops sewn at all four corners.
-
Mine has the center seam grommet on each short side plus 3 per long side. One spaced 3' in from each corner ( bcarron photo) plus the offset one on each side like mpillis' diagram. Corner tabs as well. What were they thinking? The side grommets are reinforced with webbing inside the seam, but sewing on 2 more tabs per side where you need them sounds like a good idea.

I have wondered the same thing.
For what it is worth I measured the location of the grommets here:
