Whoopie Sling Poll
We are looking to find out what HF members think is a good size for the fixed eye - locked bremmel on a whoopie sling is. Our current standard is "a bit bigger than my thumb" or about 1 1/2 inches when flattened out (that would be about a 1" inside diameter if it where a circle, dont throw math at me please, it does not have to involve pi, well unless it is cherry, love that) . I have seen some around 3" I was thinking 2 1/2 would be suitable to get the end over, say a Dutch Buckle for example. So what do you think:
(oh, this would go for the fixed eye on size on a UCR as well.)
-
I can't find the "All of the above" button
-
I voted 1.5" because I just loop the fixed end through my hammock channel. I think others may need a larger loop for other attachment types. I suppose a larger loop doesn't hurt, but a smaller one may?

Did someone mention pi? I'm hungry.
I generally make mine around 2" (flattened)

It depends upon whether or not you intend to larks-head the fixed loop onto the whipped end of a hammock, or you are running the whoopie through an end channel & only threading the tag end through the fixed eye.
In the latter case, as well as using a Dutch Whoopie Hook, you need only a tiny eye. If I larks-head onto the hammock, I make mine about 4" long.
-
So you are larks heading the fixed eye end only? Can you show me a picture sometime? The reason I asked is because there is always 6" at the end of the main bury in a whoopie sling because of the bury from the fixed eye, that is why I always assumed there would not be a need to make the eye that big for a larks head to a hammock. But I have been wrong so many times that one more would not hurt that much.
-
I voted "1 because I only need it to loop through itself to whip the ends of my hammock. I use the marlin spike hitch to attach whoopies to tree huggers. I'm sure that wouldn't work out though if you're using a dutch buckle or some other hardware design.
-
I don't have a lot of extra dyneema cord, so I just go with 1" and use the same thing to larks head around my hammock or to use a whoopie hook.
-
I voted 2 inches, but that is simply because I make all of my fixed eyes 2 inches.
I know, I know. I'd make a horrible gram weenie using 2 inches when half an inch is all that is needed, but I'm lazy and those small loops are hard on my fat fingers. :D
