Whooo Buddy what a great weekend we had this weekend. 13 of us 8 kids and 5 adults went backpacking this weekend, and what a weekend it was. We left the Chesterfield Church Friday afternoon at 4:30 to drive 2 hours to Mt. Washington MA state forest. we arrived about 6:30 where we started our backpacking trip by hiking in about a mile in the dark to Glen Brook Shelter off the Appalachian Trail. Setup camp and settled in for the night where it got about 24* at Night. In the Morning we took off Hiking over Mt. Everett, Mt. Race and settling into our second camp at Sage's Ravine campsites. We arrived about 4:30 in the afternoon with enough light to setup camp and start dinners. On Sunday we left Sage's and and hiked over Mt. Round, Mt. Frissell, and Mt. Alandar. For the weekend I think we covered about 17 miles or so. I will be posting a short video of my perspective of the trip.

Looks like a ton of fun. One of the only things better than hammocking/backpacking is hammocking/backpacking with others, especially the next generation. Thanks for sharing the brief report.

Thanks guys for the comments. I had a blast. It was one of the most challenging trips for me that I have had. The most of the kids and adults made it the whole way. We did have a few that bailed out mid stream because it was too much for them. I also found out my 20* HG phoenix UQ does not go much be that. I was a little chilled on Saturday night. Either way I had a great time and experience.

Excellent. Looks like your troop logged in some miles too. Loved it and you play a mean guitar too ;-)

Thanks Brambor. Yeah we log some miles which I truly enjoyed. As to the guitar the only way I play that mean of a guitar is through me stereo speakers. Lol

How is it to hike in a mile and then set up camp? I have never done that with my troop. We usually camp at a park near the trail head on Friday night, then start the hike the next morning. Are there any safety concerns about the night hiking with full packs? Just wondering.

Great trip! I love seeing the kids getting out into nature and away from things using electrons! Good on Ya! I have yet to get out in that area near Everett, but will this coming year.
