No Hammock Camping MDSP
Called Shad Landing MDSP to see if the Camp Sites had trees inside the rental spots.. Warden was official in his statement "no Hammock Camping in our State Parks" then he took my phone # and said he would call me Wednesday. I have hung @ Janes Island MDSP last year. Is this a common deal "no hammocks" I just took delivery on additional Speer UQ/TQ & Winter Tarp.. errr

Unfortunately alot of SPs and NPs have banned them. The reason for this is that some people still don't use webbing for tree huggers and straight ropes will cut into the tree in some cases killing it.

Actually, it's the State Parks that are true culprits. While some National Parks do have regs against attaching anything to trees, 9 times out of 10, that only applies to the "campgrounds"; backcountry areas are still free to hang in. The State Parks make no exception. These are reasons I want a hammock festival of sorts, help end the ignorance.

I've hung in Michigan state parks a couple of times. I know at least one of those times the ranger on duty was at the site and saw the hammocks and didn't say anything one way or the other. I did study the rules and regulations carefully and didn't see any prohibitions.

Maryland is Nazi Central, it figures they'd try to screw with something good.

what about bear bags? seems like they would allow or even promote hanging food in the backcountry. if that's allowed, a hammock is much less impactive.

Well Poot.. I hope to find a reg for MDSP that says No Hammocks. Also you would think if a reg exist that says no hammocks in SP that a savvy person would mention the Tree Straps of a type that prevents cutting into the Bark. A 1/8" thick X 2.25" wide teflon band next to the tree, then the straps perhaps. A idea.. errrr you can get yours from me .. sponser my ride or worse. I am very PO'ed about this No Hammock deal. Wrecked my plans.. lets see how the warden replys come Wednesday. I also have PM's off to Parks and Management MD sources..

Yes, MD ‘can be tough’ on hangers. Some times its better to plead lack of knowledge and apologize than ask permission. If chased off trees or no suitable tree available the dually and boat trailer are set up to serve as a portable hammock stand. Most public parks on the shore are water sports related, to include several water trails.
Bear bags? Whats that?
Last count we have three black bear here on the shore,
far as anyone knows they eat from birdfeeders.
