Photo Review HMG Cuben Tarp

Just took shipment on a new cuben tarp made by Hyperlite Mountain Gear.

Here are the specs from the website:

Ran out of daylight to do anything further, so tomorrow I'll throw a wbbb and TtoT Switchback under to show the coverage.

I'll also weight the tarp in its stuff sack with the CRL , prussic's and 4-6' tie outs all made from 2.2 Lash-it.

A little info on this deal.
I order via there website on Thursday, received a shipping confirmation on Saturday, and the tarp was in my mail box Monday.

The more I play with this tarp the more I like it.
Can’t thank Hangnout enough for the tip on using the LineLoc’s attached to all 6 tie outs points.
They are a dream to work with once you know how to thread the line thru them.

I have removed the CRL and will try the lineloc’s attached to the tarps ridgeline.
I need a bit of wind to test their holding ability since I'm not using the HMG supplied line. Instead
I'm using my favorite line, 2.2 lash-it. It's quite slippery in comparison.

For you Warbonnet fans out there. Super coverage on the ends and the sides.

So the wind did come up and the Lash-it is too slippery to hold in the LineLoc’s
I still prefer them over a CRL so a couple wraps and a slippery half hitch later all is holding well.

looks great! Also sounds like awesome customer service. Customer service puts me over the edge on alot of decisions for gear, also price. This particular deal seems to have a good combo of both :) Congrats on the new edition to your kit.

Great looking tarp. You can tell they have have been doing this for awhile. Gotta like the fact you have yours in a few days.

Give those lineloc3's a chance:D With the cat cut ridgeline I bet they would work better than the CRL and not give up the quick adusting from end to end.

I would love to if I knew how they worked.
I've never used lineLoc's before.

I bought this for my light weight hiking tarp and would love to dump the CRL for 2 adjustable pieces.

Hi Wags,
A soon as I can figure out the lineloc's I sure will.
From what I can tell right now each tie out point (6) has two devices.
A lineloc and a walking pole attachment. The walking pole attachment on the ridgeline must be for using poles to support
the tarp when you have no trees.

They work just like webbing going thru a ladderlock. They use the cord in place of webbing. I have them on all my tarps.

Thanks everyone I'm glad you Guys and Gals are enjoying the review photos. It makes the effort worthwhile.
I've added additional photos to post #1 doing a size comparison with the OES Delux. My absolute favorite sized tarp.

I also hung the Tree to Tree Switchback, and WB Black Blackbird under the tarp to test the coverage.
The SB is a very long hammock and getting full coverage can be a challenge.
You don't hang a SB like a WBBB. It uses far less sag which makes it longer under the tarp.

I think I answered most question if not hit me up again I love doing this kind of stuff.

Wolf Track, You bet ya, After food and I did our scout of the area for the Co Summer Hang
I found out very quick that I did not want to carry a 23# pack up that big hill. So when I got home
I started looking for places to trim. My 1.2 lb tarp with skins, CRL, & 4- 6' tieouts was a candidate
and my hunt for a 2 season cuben tarp with coverage similar to the OES Delux started.

Once I take everything down it will be time to hit the scale and show size comparison when stuffed.

Hi Bo,
The HMG comes in a rather large cuben stuffsack.
The tarp was folded not randomly stuffed approx size 8"x11"x1.5" (20.3cm X 27.9cm X 3.8cm)
Heck I could pack the tarp and WB traveler hammock in it.

I probably won't use the HMG stuffsack for the tarp. It's the right size for extra cloths or a food bag.
I have several small zpack's cuben stuffsacks that I believe will work better.

Very nice lookin tarp you got there OutandBack, very nice indeed! You are right it is a great size tarp, and the comparison with the OES Deluxe was a great visual! Thanks for postin!!!! The extra ring tie out for the tip of a hiking pole is a great addition as it makes setting it up with hiking poles super easy, I had them on one of my tarps!

Man... that's sweet!

MLD uses the same line locks. I tighten them then use a slippery half hitch around the working part of the line. Tension on the line keeps the knot tight

Yep, that's my guess. I have two sets of snowshoeing pole and neither fit very well. Hiking poles must have a smaller diameter tip.
