So my machine finally bit the dust...:(
Sad times are upon OES tonight, my sewing machine is showing it's signs of an 'early' retirement, ok maybe not so early. In the spirit of a recent thread about what kind of thread injectors we all use, I have been using a Janome DC3018 (home machine) for the past 4.5 years and it has done it's job faithfully.
I think that I've put it through more use than was ever planned for it, using it commercially for all of this time and putting at least 1500-2000 hours on it. But the past 24 hours have brought not one but two metal-on-metal grinding noises, along with some not so comfortable clicking noises from the bobbin casing. Even after taking all of the casing off and spending a few hours lubricating/cleaning the internals, no dice.
The gods must have been talking amongst themselves, especially only a week ago I had been shopping around for some local stores to do some shopping at. I have been waiting for quite a while to finally have the funds to purchase an industrial machine. I have been craving the extra speed and ergonomics of a nicer machine...So Monday, I'll be taking a trip down to Pittsburgh (a little over 4 hours from Rochester) to a facility with a huge selection of used industrial machines. That means that in the very near future, I'll be going from the only guy on campus with a sewing machine to the only guy (and probably girl) on campus with an industrial machine in their dorm room .
If anyone reading this is in the Pittsburgh area, let me know and we can meet up for a bit during the day if you're available!
