was meaning to seal the underside, but thanks to beer i sealed the topside of my tarp. after searching around i never got a defined answer on where to apply. did i do it wrong? should i seal the underside as well? should i keep drinking?

I would have another beer and then take a nap under the tarp in your hammock. It's fine. The main reason to seal the underside is looks. Functionally the top is the side you want to keep water from getting through.

On my first DIY tarp I seam sealed the top only. First good rain under it I woke up to a drip. Now I seal top and bottom of my tarp seams. Of course I'm a belt and suspenders kinda guy, but my tarps don't leak. :D
