So as you all know I just got my WBBB 1.7 DL and I love it so far, however I am thinking I might want to change the suspension to whoopie slings and toggles. I would like to see some feedback on your experiences, from installation, to use in the field, and was it worth it?
For me...a big yes. Easy enough to do as well.

Both have worked very well for me. However when counting ounces and pack space, I go with the slings all the time. Light and easy to use - what more could you want !

Switching out my standard WB suspension with whoopies was the first thing I did back when I received my WBBB 1.7sl and glad I did . Now all of my hammocks have whoopies.
Just my experience, but I found the tapering and taping method for splicing to work poorly. Those tiny sub strands, despite being thinner than a strand of hair, are VERY strong, and the tape method snags a lot.
I've had better results with straightening out a paper clip, then bending one end back on itself and taping that over so it doesn't snag. Then, I file the tip of the "needle" so the edges don't snag. Taper the amsteel, thread it through the loop, and splice away.
No straps for me - whoopies is the way to go!

I'm definitely thinking of trying to lighten the load a little by switching out to whoopie slings, so l'd be interested in hearing how it goes for you. I'd also like to get a feel for how much weight I might be able to save - from what I gather it's ~ 5 oz?

I just traded out my webbing suspension for whoopies this week! The installation was super easy, followed the same video instructions here and had them on in about two minutes. I love the lower profile it gives my BB at a distance, and its just fun make adjustments now!
The only issue I have right now is the whoopie keeps slipping off the knot and toggle each time I start making adjustments. Or just before sitting into the hammock, I take the edge to the back of my knees and start to sit down and it falls! Its only happened a couple times, and seems to be that its still got that new shine and slick feel..

Make sure you really pull that spike through the loop. If you only pull it through enough to pass the sides of the loop, you're not going to get a nice, meaty knot to rest on. Cram that whoopie end well into that top intersection of the vertical part of the strap leading to the tree and the top of the marlin spike loop.Quote:
