I'm out of vacation but I may be able to swing a 1/2 day Friday.
If I hike in from the Marilla trail head would anyone be willing to drive me back to the car Sunday? I don't want to do 12+ miles then drive home all on Sunday.
I'd hate to miss the NCT side but that's just how it is.

With the weather acting as goofy as it has been in Michigan. (0-60-0 in one week flat) It could be 10 and snow, or 55 and sun????
Looks like if I head north after dropping the kids off at school, I could be there around 10:15 - 10:30 on Friday. I'm going to try to sneak in a solo weekend trip to Hoist lakes near the end of this month, but am definitely looking forward to meeting up with a few others for this trip.
I will be going on my first outing in a long long time April 27th. We are looking at the NCT side and just doing a point A to point B hike with an overnighter. Any tips or advice for that part of the hike?
The NCT side really dosent have much scenery, the MRT side is much better. And there really arent too many good spots (with water available) on the NCT side to camp as well, aside from the northern termius. You can still point to point on the MRT side. Start at either Red Bridge, Seaton Creek or the Marilla trailheads, there are a lot of nice campsites along the MRT side, not to mention some great outlaw (stealth) sites.Quote:

I did the NCT/MRT loop last May and enjoyed almost every part, including the NCT side. I started at the Marilla TH working my way south. Stonehooligan is right about less scenery on the NCT side but I would say it's just lacking a view of the river. There are some high parts where you can see it before the leaves come out. Other than that I found plenty of nice piney areas to camp, so many I couldn't decide, as usual!Quote:

They are the usual trampled down, dirty, trash laden spots where people can't respect minimizing their impact. You can camp anywhere as long as it's 200' from the water. You can't beat getting a nice pristine spot hidden in the pines away from the trail and all the action!
