Exactly. If you want tiny continuous loops, make 'em with triple fisherman's bends, bury the bitter ends, and call it good. Sometimes we focus on splicing...it's not the only way to join lines, nor the best.

I'm using exactly the same setup and went for bigger loops on both ends of the straps to allow easier passing of one end through the other.
Horses for courses. My way isn't better, just different and it works well for me
My splices are straight and I lock them with thread.
