Pics from the White Mountains Hang ...

Hopefully! LOL! I will figure this out yet!:D

First pic is the Soto Micro-Regulator Gas stove (used ISOPRO). Awesome stove! Weighs practically nothing, totally controllable for simmer! I also used the BushBuddy - with a heat/flame deflector plate that was good. Plate got all the black soot, not the Snowpeak mug! I cleaned the plate in the creek using wet sand to remove the soot. Good trick. You can see the Bushbuddy and the deflector plate in the first pic to the right. I was experimenting with both.

Second is the Marlin Spike Hitch I tried (also worked great) using a found piece of PVC pipe. Will do that again with smaller diameter pieces, and add some pull cords.

Third is a Grip Clip attached with a 10" bungee for the fleece sleeping blanket I used as an underquilt. I slid a 4 ft piece of CCF between the blanket and the hammock one night, but really didn't need to.

Fourth is "Beaver Pond" at the top of Kinsman Notch on the Cancamagus Highway in the White Mountain National Forest. Nice hike rewarded with Brook Trout for dinner that night!

Fifth is the hang site .... small creek right behind it .... soothing for sleeping!

Last is the whole campsite at Lost River Valley.

What a fun hang!!

Nice use of the grip clip to make your underquilt!

Can you talk a bit more about the deflector plate for the Bushbuddy? Sounds like an interesting idea.

===> Thanks! The clips work miracles! I bought a lot of 20, and used six of them for the fleece blanket UQ.

I got the heat/smoke deflector plate with a pot stand at REI, I think, for short money. Basically, it looks like the top was cut off a large food can, and three slots cut in to hold the wire pot stand.

It took me several more minutes to boil water with the Bushbuddy, but having no black soot on the SnowPeak Mug was worth it, in my view! Was WAY easier just to clean-off the deflector. I haven't yet compared to the gas stove I used, but I bet that would work even better. Kept the flames from getting too high around the pot as well. Light and useful. Worked as a trivet when cool and I put a larger hot pot on it at a picnic table.

I think this one stays in the kit.:cool:

Good thinking, the Grip Clip underquilt is ingenious. I've never seen or thought of that before.

===> Thanks! :) The Grip Clips worked well ....especially with the 10 inch bungees connecting them to the end of the hammock. The best part is that you can take them off when not using them, and use them for something else. With them, ANYTHING can become an UQ! You could also probably use them on a real UQ, as well, to snug it up to the hammock if necessary, I think.

They can also clip tarps together - making a huge one.

Anything that needs a tie-out in an odd place.

The clips are the ingenious things- I just found a way to use them! :cool:

====> I have pics of both ...posted the grip clips ...have to upload the Bushbuddy and the deflector plate in the morning.

===> None at all! Never saw a Park Ranger while hanging on the Pemigewassit River (Stealth hang, anyway), and the campground I moved to is totally hammock friendly (Lost River Valley Campground).

====> Here is a pic of the flame deflector plate and pot stand I used with the Bushbuddy Stove. The mug obviously is smaller than the pot rest, which is designed more for larger pots, but worked well anyway.

The boil time took a bit longer (several minutes) waiting for the deflector plate to heat-up, but once it did, things went normally!

**Notice how clean the mug is! :) **

They also work well for making impromptu tie-out points on a tarp as well as sealing off the windward side on a breezy night.

===> Only part of it ...was not in that sort of hiking shape! I eventually ended-up getting the SUV, and driving to a small parking area off the main highway to fish. The trail access there is rugged!

BTW - that is where I ran into a small yearling black bear. Saw him before he saw me, so I just jangled all the stuff on my fly fishing vest to get his attention and let him know I was there. He turned, and when I stepped forward and made some more noise, he took off like a cartoon character! Back legs were really turning over, and he was going no place for a moment slipping on the pine needles and leaves! When he finally got traction he took off like a shot - probably still running! LOL!
