Newbie here. I'm interested in sewing some goose down baffles to the bottom of my hammock to eliminate carrying and slipping around on a pad. I think I will go with goose down for lightweight, good insulation and compressibility. I've read that 700 is about the least count you want. Does anyone have a guideline as to how much I need to put in my baffles? And any other advice to help with my first hammock sewing/goose down stuffing experience?
There are several things here to consider. First off, you'd probably be better off just making an underquilt. With sewing baffles right onto your hammock you'd have to figure in the curvature, and the stretch of the top material compared to the bottom material that you'd be using, and so on in order to get your measurements right.
Secondly, down goes quite high, I think up to 900.
You'd want a DWR on bottom to help keep the wind from robing you of warmth.
