Finally had the opportunity to field test my D.I.Y TQ consisting of 6.0 Climashield sandwiched in a top and bottom layer of IX with a top and bottom 1.1 Ripstock nylon covering.
Temps got down to the high to mid 20's this weekend on the AT and I'm happy to report that it surpassed my expectations. The material combination is without question good to the low 30's without doubt
Glad to hear it worked out good for you :D
Nice job, looks great.
I saw the TQ first hand. We woke to 24F and snow and Ray was warm and rested. It's a very well made 20 deg TQ that compliments the very well made 20 deg UQ he also made. They go a long with the numerous stuff sacks and what not he's made. (Yeah, I'm jealous of his D.I.Y. skills) :D
Interesting. I've been thinking of doing something similar (though PEF instead of IX), in a 3 layer PEF setup with two or three Climashield layers (3 or 5mm) to see if it can get down to -15F.
