Hello All!
I will try to keep this short and sweet. 1st: I am a retired Marine. 2nd: 1st hammock experiance was in Thailand, cross training with the Thi Marines. They showed me how to make a Hammock from a G-11 parachute, and use it for sleeping and relaxing.(they dont like sleeping on the ground in the jungle.to many critters.lol) 3rd: was looking for a DIY way to make a Hammock for my 44ft masthead ketch sailboat, to sleep more comfertable out on the water. Well I do like to camp also and when I found this forum, ( thanks to Shug's You Tube Channel ), I guess you could say I have been bitten by the Bug. No gear as of yet, but since I was a Parachute Rigger and can sew, I will be doing alot of DIY. So thanks to all forum members ahead of time for all your Great Ideas and Help.

Welcome aloft DevilDog, from a retired Army SFC. Once bitten, your life will never be the same. Good news though, it will be better.

Welcome to the ranks Devildog, there are many symptoms that come from the hammock bug once you are bitten. Good luck with the DIY and please let us know how the gear turns out as you make it.

Hello All!
Welcome from the mitten state DD, there's lots of fine folk here even if we aren't nearly as cool as Shug!

Well, I think I am on the right track. Just got off the phone with an Army Rigger friend of mine, and he is going to send me an outdated cargo parachute. Now I will have plenty of 1.1 oz ripstop nylon, and cordage. will have to see what condition it is in 1st. But I think for my 1st hammock and experimentation, this should be fun! can't wait....

Hello All!
I've got a bead on a surplus parachute too. Tempted just to get all that nylon for $30 at a pawn shop!
It's unused, but my only concern is the panels being sewn in odd configurations. Even so, though... Tempting!
Welcome, Devil Dog. Semper Fi.
