Thanks for all the input from everyone. I went ahead and ordered a sl1.7 !!!
Similar question as I'm also considering a warbonnet. I'm looking to get the DL for the bug issues and using mats between most of the time. Will the second layer reduce the effectiveness of an underquilt in the winter (the underquilt being on the outside not in between)? Just wondering if there would be breathability/condensation issues, etc. Thanks for the help.
Welcome to HF ferret;)
The 2nd layer wont interfere with a underquilt or cause problems with condensation - but it will help in "fixating" a unruly pad and reduce the chance of being bitten trough the layers.
Just remember that a underquilt goes on the outside of the hammock, not between layers(it needs to loft in order to retain insulation).
thanks! and thanks!
I went 1.7 DL for my recent purchase for two reasons. It always ends up I'm outfitting someone else which is not a problem. I enjoy showing new people the outdoor lifestyle and want the flexibility of having gear that can do it all, but mostly because of mosquitos.
I live in northern WI now and have backpacked and paddled 36 states. I frequently head up into BWCA/Quetico and the UP.
When you actually breathe in mosquitos......then you know you've got an infestation. I have been drilled through in SL hammocks.
Never again. I now have a Clark and a WBBB DL in 1.7
I got the 1.7dbl for exactly the same reasons as Lorax. I'm only 175#, but I fully expect that I may have to outfit my group. So I now have an HH BPUL and the WBBB 1.7dbl. I only have one UQ, so the double allows the use of ccf for bottom insulation.
Of course, I still have 4 tents of varying sizes and 6 sleeping bags.
What I really need [want] now is another nice UQ and MacCat or Ztarp!
