When setting up the ridge line for my new MacCat, I visited the local sporting goods shop and got scrap carbon fiber arrow shaft material for free. It weighs nothing, is very strong, and drills easily for attachment to the ridgeline. I used Zing-It for the line and Triptease for a Kleimheist Prussic for the toggles--seems to hold fine. The ends of the carbon fiber shafts aren't sharp like aluminum shafts are, and don't abrade the tarp.
I never would have thought to check sporting good stores for scraps.
Free is the best price.
I got a box full of arrow scraps at the house. I'm thinking ultralight wind chimes for my hammock. :cool:
I've been using the carbon-fiber shaft for a while now and they're great! Go to any bow hunting shop and they should be able to provide you with some scraps.
I originally asked for aluminum shafts (thinking they might be stronger) and the guy at the shop said they cut very few aluminum arrows anymore -- all the "cool" hunters have made the switch to CF.
