Transferring Bugnet Technology to Hammock Socks
I had a few thoughts for Two Sticks and Hangnout...
It occurred to me that you could sew the roof piece onto one side of the bugnet. That would make it a SEEP of Sorts, such as I use on the Molly Mac Gear Hammock Socks. You could still get in and out on either side. This would allow you to adjust the tension of the shock cords to change the height of the bugnet, and still make a good soft seal. It would also cut the soft seal length in half.
The roof could be netting. A fellow suggested that a fabric roof could be soaked in permethrin.
I want to make one of these for my Speer Hammock. It would be removable via the velcro. The Speer bugnet is very small, and is designed to be rigged low, close to your body, using the non-structural ridgeline. Your technique can do that as well, especially if you have a simple way to hook the two pieces of shock cord together in the middle. It would probably double the size of the Speer bugnet, but you could get in and out in silence! :D
I realized that I could re-rig a Molly Mac Gear Box with shock cord, add a shock cord ridgeline, and have nearly the same thing. It would likely keep it from wanting to spill things under certain conditions. I'll post something on that soon. :) EDIT: I did it... it works very well!
I also realized that I could modify a MMG Hammock Sock to make use of your method. If I shorten the SEEP, install a shock cord ridgeline, and add an arched panel with shock cord to the open side, I would have a sock that works just like your bugnet! Basically, it would raise the freeboard so that the SEEP could be shorter. I have a prototype that I can modify easily. One incentive to do this is that you could install the sock after hanging the hammock, because the ends would not be closed. I'll post something on this soon as well.
I feel confident that your Zipperless Bugnet Technology can be transferred to SEEP style Hammock Socks readily! Your idea is truly brilliant! :boggle:
