Great setup for the money. If you want a cheap underquilt, look into a pluq. It is a military poncho liner folded in half and some cordage.
Happy hanging!!!

Awesome, "hang your own hang" someone once said!
Nice 1st setup. Stay plugged into HF.net here. Read, watch, learn and it will be fun to see how your setup progressss over time.
Enjoy the journey!
Really cool setup. I like that you are trying a few different things for a low price and building on it as you find out how you like to hammock.
This is a classic example of "I'll do anything to get off the cold hard ground. I personally love your setup! Thanks for sharing smurf... :)
Forgot my thoughts... Only thing I would change is about your tarp. The side tieouts I would move closer to the ends of the tarp. You will have a tighter pitch, and will still give you the ability to have doors...
I think that is an awesome effort and a lesson to everyone - you don't need the latest, lightest kit to get the job done!
Give her a run in the wilds and then tweak and change what you're not so happy with. I cant think of a better journey than building, buying and modifying your set-up to suit your own needs step-by-step as you live the outdoors!
I like your set-up, and I look forward to hanging out with you at the Frozen Butt Hang in Columbia. If it gets really cold at the hang, don't worry we can help you with some insulation.
This looks very similar to my initial set-up that I got this past summer. The only real differences is that I had a lot of old military gear (pad, sleeping bag, 550 cord, etc.) laying around that I repurposed for hanging. I've loved it and I've upgraded a few things along the way as budget and inclination permits. I'm sure you'll do the same. :)
