Alternative to whipping?

When I made my first DIY hammock, I stumbled onto this video on YouTube that seemed like a great way to attach the suspension. It's simple, works with either rope or webbing, and seems to me to be a more positive connection than a whipped end that could be prone to slipping. I do mine with a whoopie sling, so I use a small loop on the end instead of the big loop & dbl. lines as shown. Also, I use a Hennesy-style of fold rather than an accordian gather. I'm not sure if it's got an official name or not, but I think it should. Wish I had a good pic of it on my own hammocks . . . hafta take one.

If it's already been discussed here, I apologize for draggin it out again, but I haven't seen it mentioned or used in DIY setups here. My first hammock worked great with it, so I used it on my second as well. Regardless, I absolutely love this setup!

I did the same thing on a cheap parachute hammock I shortened into a hammock chair. It is solid and works great. I ued it because I don't sew. I suppose it could be the asymmetricality of it that people don't like or maybe it uses up more material than they like. Just guessing.

Looks good, I am getting ready to make a DIY hammock so I will have to try this out with a set of whoopies. Thanks for the post

Yeah, the first one I tied had the suspension line comming off from the bottom. When my body weight pulled the hammock down, the knot would turn so the line exited at the top. Only a "looks" thing, but I redid it and now tie them so the suspension line leaves the knot on the top side, as shown in the video.

sounds good to me, starting my own DIY hammock, and this seams to be easy enough

Looks like a good way to hang. I may use it on my next hammock.

I've made a number of those using climbing webbing like he does in this video.



You do use a lot of fabric length but it's a comfortable and easy rig to make.

This is a great idea and it def keeps the whoopies from slipping. I whipped the fabric below knot just to lock things down.

Now to get my rommmate to try it. :D
