new hammock/HH style
I have 3 HH and with the info found here made my first HH style hammock and I just want to say thanks for the site and the sharing of info. I new there had to be a place where folks experimented with these things, man talk about saving time trying to make my own.
I will try to put up some photos and descriptions of what I used later. I know much will be the same as posted before. I did use the melted hole tie for the material like the HH though. Once again thanks, bill
Congrats on the new hammock.
Welcome to the forum and I can't wait to see some pics.
Welcome to the Forum and Congratulations mobiltoy!
What fabric did you use for the hammock body, is it tafetta or ripstop?
welcome..i think you will like this place...
I used an unknown weight of nylon non ripstop, 1 inch poly webbing, tarp grommets, zip ties, 300# polyprop for ridgeline. The material looks like cordura but there was no info on the end of the bolt or from the shop owner. I just took a chance. It feels much heavier than the HH I own. The webbing was rated at 700# and was all I could find local. I am ordering line from one of the venders found on this site.
fabric 11' x 60"
20 feet of webbing, cut in half
1/8 " elastic
I hemmed each edge, folded like the HH and used a grommet punch to make the HH burned holes. I then used four grommets per end, two on each side of the fold. I couldn't get the material to burn/melt to my satisfaction. I used the zip tie to hold the folds, then with the webbing I tied the ends. I stitched nylon webbing loops about 44" from each end for the asym tie outs, added the elastic and put the whole mess up in the yard. I later used the scrap material for a stuff bag and end covers that are zip tied on.
I have some lighter ripstop nylon (unknown weight) that I will make another version with some slight tweaking. Other than taking more time with the folds
and sew better it is more comfortable than any of my HH. I will try to post the pics of this one and more details of anything else that there is interest in.
Once again thanks for all the groundwork. Bill
You won't miss that webbing.
I use that yellow webbing also,mobiltoy, so don't feel bad.;) :p :D

Thanks, So far I like using the webbing for the ends, I just wanted something with a higher breaking point for safety sake. Bill
