DL vs. SL
I'm trying to decide on my first hammock and need some advice. I'm looking at either the dl1.0 or sl1.7. I weigh 170 lbs so I should be OK with either I think. I'm just not sure if I need the DL since I think I'll probably use an UQ.
But then I start thinking that since I'm new to hammocks maybe the DL would be more versatile if I decide to use a pad.
Also I see the dl1.0 is made overseas. I read all the thread about this and I'm OK with it but worry that I'll have a harder time reselling it if I don't like it, particularly if they start being made domestically some time in the future
Any input is appreciated.
I weigh around the same as you, and have the 1.7 sl - and i'm extremely happy with it(i sleep in every night).
A dual layer will be more versatile(and perhaps a little more wear resistant) but it will be heavier and most hangers seem to gravitate towards the underquilt solution....
Bomber are you comfortable using an UQ or is it too warm sometimes? Also it looks like the dl1.0 actually weighs less than the sl1.7 but either way not a lot of difference for me.
I had planned to go with an UQ but just wasn't sure if there were times I would regret it. Thanks for the input.
I use underquilts all season - in the summer it also keep the mosquitoes at bay. My newly acquired winter incubator have so far been comfortable up in mid 60's if it gets any hotter i have my IX quilt - they overlap nicely temperature wise.

Welcome to HF!
I spent many a summer in Chandler. Ahhhh, the memories...
Alan, how long have been gone from E Tex?
Uhh yeah...Welcome to HF:)
Unfortunately, I didn't live up there...only visited. My father's family moved around quite a bit. He actually lived in Whitehouse for a time during his youth. They bounced to Tyler proper, Chandler, and Edom. I still have family in Van!
I would spend summers on my grandparent's farm outside of Chandler. Man, those were the days!
Claim to fame (or so it's been lied about ) is that Bonnie and Clyde tore through the back of my grandparent's property trying to outrun the police.
I traded one of my extra 1.1 doubles for a 1.7 single. I'm a little over 205 & had just enough shoulder squeeze with the 1.7 that I sold it. I have a 1.0 dl on order now.
This may have changed, but about a year and a half ago when I bought mine (1.1dbl), the word on here was that mosquitoes can bite through the single layer hammocks but not double layers. They're bad here, and I hate being bitten, so that was a big deciding factor for me.
