Cheap bottom insulation at Ikea
I was at Ikea today and came across a cheap lightweight synthetic-fill comforter that looks like it has a lot of potential for a DIY underquilt using the same construction techniques as a poncho liner. It has a porous outer shell, so it will need an undercover or something like a space blanket.
Twin size $7.99
Length: 86 "
Width: 64 "
Filling weight: 13 oz
Total weight: 23 oz
Just 10 oz for the polyprop shell?
Just 10 oz for the polyprop shell? That's just 2 oz more than a ripstop 1.1 nylon shell to enclose similar sized quilts.
It obviously cost Ikea very, very little. Is it woven and did it appear to have sufficient strength for an UQ. Or was it like the non-woven ulta-light pressed material of $1 store laundry bags from China, the ones with a woven mesh square on the front?
