Zipper Install on my HH
Well my materials came in yesterday and I just couldn't wait to tackle it! I am certainly an amateur and it shows, but it was fun and I would do it again in a heartbeat. I made plenty of mistakes though. But the way I see it, it is my hammock and the mistakes give it personality, and I can try to fix them as I go. The zippers I used are #10 YKK, which I thought would be too big when I saw them at first, but after I installed them, I am glad I went with that size. They glide along easily and make an impressive deep zipper sound
I missed my second row of stitching on one side, it was late and I wanted to go to sleep (in my hammock). So I may tackle that today, that's the beauty of it, now that it is installed I can make minor corrections and tackle small tasks and still have use of it. I have slept the past 19 nights in it and am glad to have the side entry now, sure makes it easier to get up in the middle of the night...if you know what I mean!
I am just getting ready to tackle this project as well. Zippers are in.
1. How did you terminate your zipper?
2. How did you make sure everything lines up?
When I ordered the zipper, I also ordered stops, full stops for the end of the zipper which spans the full width of the zipper, (2 total ), and single stops for the other end which only span a single side of the zipper ( 4 total ). As far as lining everything up, I just eyeballed it. Probably not the best way to do it, but it worked well for me.
For your 1st, I would said it's excellent. I've been kicking it back and forth if I want to do a zipper on mine.
1. How much weight did it add?
2. Where did you get the zippers?
3. I see that you have 3 pulls. How does that work?
4. Is the net removable?
It's my 100 post. :boggle:
I tell you what, after doing this, I certainly appreciate the skills that ZQ and others possess.
Congrats! on your 100th!

I toyed with the idea of just going full length singles but am very happy I went triple, on both sides actually. I bought my materials from Quest Outfitters (Excellent Service). The net is removable to the foot end of the hammock and will be stowed there, but not fully removable, no.
I added a zipper down the side of my Expedition, because the bug net got damaged,...... it was easy, though not pretty. I just sewed the ends together, so the zipper clasps could not come off. The coil zipper stock I got at JoAnns. (get coil zipper stock, not long "sleeping bag" size which cost $$$$) Usable zipper clasps are all over the house, on everything new and old. Most all are the same size, in milimeters, which I forget just now. Unprofessional, but functional.
Very nice. I was lazy and a little nervous so I had ZQ do it for me. went with mod 2 so it was 50 plus shipping. not too bad for the super job she did.
