Test Hammock # 2
My first test hammock was $1 bin polyester about the color but a little heavier than the material used to make the Boy Scout uniform in th 70's.
I made it double bottom for "security" reasons and it has held up well through some naps and 2 nights.
I found some blue nylon oxford in the $1 bin at lunch today and will use it to make test hammock #2. I do not know what weight it is but not quite as heavy as packcloth.
Do you think my 250# would be secure with single bottom?
It is only a test hammock but am hoping to use it on a 2 night canoe trip in a couple of weeks.
Thanks for any input.
I do think you will do ok in a single bottom. I am partial to Claytors due to the double bottom but I am gradually getting away from the double bottom thing. I weigh 210 and feel fine in a single now. For the extra few ounces though, I can see the plus in a double bottom. I have underquilts and really don't need them.
In my polyester i have gootne down into the 40's with just a sleeping bag and no pad.
JHowever much colder I can see where double bottom wouldbe good for insulating.
For summer though I am going to try to go with single bottom of thes nylon.
