Tarp line query
I have bought some line for my tarp tie outs labelled "venetian cord" it is 2mm and has a breaking strain of 45kg. I think its nylon.
Do you think it will suffice for tie outs for my superfly?
Also is it strong enough for the guylines to wrap around the trees?
Help please :)
Probably cord designed for venetian blinds? I can't see any reason why it wouldn't work. Tarp guylines are pretty straightforward, they don't need to be superstrong. I have used all sorts of stuff in the past. For me, the only characteristics I care about are weight and the abilty for the line to hold a knot and me being able to tie/untie the line is wet, windy, frozen weather.
I think it will work, but I'd be a little concerned about what will happen in the rain. It might rot a lot quicker than something made for the outdoors. Might be OK, just something to check on if it rains - which it will.
Nylon has a tendency to stretch, especially when wet. So, a piece of 1/8" shock-cord in the line would cure that as well as the inherent stretch in a silnylon tarp.
Best way to know is to give it a go))))))0
Reckon it will get you by. Have fun and carry forth.
Yup its for venetian blinds and the label at the hardware store where I bought it states it can be used for camping purposes. I am practicing my knots...mmmm Dutchware :D
