I'm considering swapping out the suspension on my Clark (again).
I'm thinking of going to ring buckles.
The Clark has a sewn-in channel in each end that has a thick rope loop passed through it.
Since I'm going to a ring buckle setup, I'd imagine that I want a thinner rope. But I also don't want something that's going to saw right through the gathered channel.
What rope should I use? and at what thickness?
Amsteel grey? 1/4"??
BTW, I weigh 260 lbs.
I've used the 3mm Amsteel Blue through the end channels on my TTTM and it has not caused any damage. I make a large loop of cord, pass the loop through the end of the hammock and then cinch it down. Once it's cinched down the rope does not really move through the channel so there's no chance of sawing the fabric. Plus the 3mm Amsteel is like 2500lbs breaking strength.
I've been using doubled up 550 cord with no problems on my DIY, although I've not had many hangs in it.
