I remember that!!!!:)
I have made two of the Neat Frost Pads although I haven't used them yet because it has been too hot. I did test them one night in my backyard, but it was just too hot out.
I hammock camp with my son. I have pictures in my gallery.
Welcome aboard!! I have been happy with my tarps from Ed Speer.
I'm game, I ordered some CC Buckles today and will try them out. So far I am happy with the ring buckles and I haven't been tying slip knots. I will admit ONE time when I sat in my hammock it very...
Where did you actually camp? I have to start looking for places to camp in the cooler parts of the country. Looks like it wouldn't take long to get there from where I live. I would love for my son to...
Looks good except the far tree looks like you did not wrap the webbing around the tree for the hammock. I am new my self with two Claytor (mosquito hammock) Expeditions and 1 Speer. On all three I...
It looks like you would run the webbing through like a Claytor. http://www.mosquitohammock.com/images/picExpeditionHammockEnd.JPG I bought some webbing from Speer and used a short piece through the...
No, just when first I set it up. Takes into account any setup to setup variation in the distance between the trees. Keep in mind, I am a new hammocker and only have a few nights under my belt.
Good luck and have fun!!
I like your double ended sack, I may have to try that myself.
I have a Speer IIIa and my only caution would be to make sure the rings are not too high up. The bug net is pretty short once it is folded over the ridge line so the ridge line can't be too high up.....
I'll second the Tilley recommendation. I have a T4 and like it a lot.

Nice report Miguel!! Which tarp are you using?
I went on a two day camp out with my son's scout troop about a month ago. At that time I slept on the ground. It was actually that camp out that go me searching for alternative shelters and...
At least it was nice sleeping in the back yard last night, nice and cool. It is nice having a reason to set the hammock up in the back yard, gotta keep doing that research.:)
Well I tried my air mattress last night in the back yard and ended up getting my home made Neat Frost ccf pad after about an hour and a half. I just couldn't get comfortable with the air mattress....
I recently purchased some fabric as well at my local Walmart to begin some of my first projects all at $1/yd. The first to be a stuff sack. (Gotta start somewhere.)
Being a nooby I never even thought about trying my air mattress. I have two Pacific Outdoor Equipment - Max Thermo 78" long air mattresses. My son and I will give them a try some time. On our only...
I will probably be there. It will be my first.
I have family camped at Moose Brook State Park in Gorham. That is some pretty country up that way. I am surprised it only got down to the 40s near Mt. Washington, I would have thought colder. Did you...
Thanks for all the comments, I should be starting at least laying everything out today. I am going to go ahead and include the draft stopper.
Well I put together two Rick Frost "Neat Frost" Pads (http://www.tothewoods.net/ImagesStayWarm/NeatFrostPad.pdf ) using my wife's sewing machine and managed to not sew my fingers to them so I am...
Yes, as angry sparrow mentions, they are all over the place. We actually took a bunch of pictures of him/her, but my son and I didn't have my wife's camera set properly so they were out of focus. To...
Yes it is.
It works great, but I did find out when testing it in rain that lasted overnight that it will leak so I sprayed some waterproofing on it. The tarp stayed taught even when wet. I haven't tested it in...
My son and I had our first hammock camp out this past Friday night. We had a great time. First we hiked about 5 miles into the Uwharrie Forest looking for a campsite. Along the way we passed a...
Wow, those were some quick responses!! Looks like I will just "stuff" it. Thanks!!
Well I bought my second hammock, a Speer IIIA. Everything comes in one nice silnylon bag. At first it was a challenge to get everything back in the one bag but in the end I more or less stuffed...
Bring your camera, that campground is a bird sanctuary and will present many opportunities. Also it goes without saying to make sure you lock up your food, there are hundreds of raccoons there. My...
OK, I have given up on finding the Target CCF pad. I have personally been to about 4 or 5 different Targets and they don't carry them anymore. I have ordered a 24" pad from an Army surplus and will...
For those of you using the Bishops bag, could you give us newb's some hints as to how to use it? Do you just "stuff" the hammock in the bag or try to fold or roll it first? Do you also put the tarp...
Thanks!! I will check that one out!!
I have been to two different Targets looking for their pads and have been unsuccessful. The only ones they appear to carry are the Eddie Bauer self inflating. I also checked their website. Has anyone...
It was happening over a wide area on both of our tarps. I don't think these are silnylon. Per mosquito hammock's website "Made of waterproof Nylon Tafta (210T)". Like I said, it took a while before...
My son and I slept in the hammocks last night for the first time in our backyard. We live in North Carolina just outside Charlotte and had a fantastic opportunity to test the weatherproofness as we...
I received my Expeditions yesterday, 1 for me and 1 for my son. I set mine up this morning with the 10x8 fly and laid in it for a while. It seems pretty comfortable. My son and I will sleep in them...
I got a little antsy:D so I ordered 2 Expeditions (1 for me and 1 for my son) with their 8x10 tarp. I will give these a try and if it is too short, I will try a Jungle for myself later. By the way,...
Hi,
I am brand new to hammocking and I am looking forward to my first
hammock. I have narrowed it down to a Mosquito Hammock Expedition or
Jungle hammock. As best as I can tell the only...
