no luck from my friends - they are too busy and they don't think they can make them affordable...
they gave me some other ideas though - i'll check those out and see where they lead.
sent that photo to some friends of mine who are metalsmith / machine type guys. hoping one of them wants to make some in their spare time.
down near keene? i might be up for that drive.
whats the park like there? i used to live in brat - but never made the trip over there.
lake lila is one of my personal favs. you can walk in - but its better to canoe in. here it is in google maps...
been there with 1 other person (twice), and also to do an 8 person group camp with...
i have the narrow pad, which i mistakenly ordered when the wides were out of stock. ordering a wide now... so i'll have to wait to tell you what i think about size. yeah, by the dims it looks huge.
...
awaiting our little one to arrive... so no travel or hanging for me, for awhile.
i'd be up for something in the spring. (bugs! and mud!) depending on where it is.
group buy...?
Thanks.

this is a 'hangmatta', from the file name... :)
can you link to the page on anders' site? i went through it last night and couldn't find anything that looked like what you describe...
good site though! bookmarked for more exploring.
no glow in the dark.
i ordered some black ones last night... in the large size.
i doubt i'll try hanging with them... :o
be nice if they lasted until your last anticipated nature call...
i was playing with some EL sheet last season for my cue reader / map holder for my 24,30, and 40 hour cycling events. very cool...
me too. although i'm a diy'r, so i might have to make a blackcat.
but for early next season it will be stock hh.
all done?
man, i missed a good thread on HF!
have to pay more attention.
let me know if you have extras, or someone doesn't pay.
i can do paypal.
just questioning the math here... not sure how 'R' values would work, but if it is 50% thicker, wouldn't it only be 1/3 warmer?
1/4 / 1/8 vs. 1/8 + 1/8 + 1/8?
huggers, biners, smc rings, stock hh rope.

Heard this too from an email from GG. Sent an email requesting a wide... hopefully they'll keep them around. I like my narrow - it was all they had when I ordered.
i asked GG about gluing pads together and in an email they recommended 'gorilla tape'. i think its by the same folks who make gorrilla bran wood glue...
have not tried it yet - but my plan was to...
i have a GG thinlight pad, narrow. i like it and wanted a wide one - but i got the same response last week.
they suggested gluing or taping 2 narrow ones together - not sure how it would roll or...
this is a bit different than treedweller's, i think.
yes, a bit.
but you need to unload the line, so i grab the line on the hammock side and pull towards the ring while i work the line through...
Pics are worth more than words, I think.

Stock HH huggers larksheaded to rings. Biner for easy on / off the tree - this could be...
i just got the 1/4".
thought i was getting the 'wide' version but they aren't stocking them anymore.
i wanted that 40" version to cut to shape and keep my shoulders warm.
i might have to get...
interesting way to run the line through the rings. no back-up knot on that? might have to try it... :)
so, is the line longer or shorter for better net placement?
here's my setup...
stock HH line to rings + huggers + biner.
when i turn into ultralight man i'll ditch the biners - but they make it nice and easy for adjusting up or down. i'll make up some...
what rapt said.
and with the rings on there, i'd have to sew some custom straps so i could pass them through the loop, as the stock loops are tiny. (i have thought about going this route... maybe if...

they are straps with loops in the ends.
depending on the tree size you can rig a basket or a choke around the tree, or multiple wrap if you have the long ones. (or a small tree, or a tight hang)
...
they came with my HH.
they are paid for.
they work.
i don't have to change anything.
how are they different than straps? they do the same thing, and i carry less bulk as i use the stock line to...
stock huggers, with rings larksheaded in.
biner through the other loop for hooking on and off.
stock HH susp line to the rings, a single figure 8 wrap round the rings and a slip knot.
much nicer...
I'm guessing that whatever we do in the wild can be detrimental.
Worse than bear bagging or hanging your hammock from a tree though would be the flight or the drive to the woods and the...
exactly, in theory.
i even threw it into an FEA program last night - the additional cords that tie the tarp to the hammock susp. line do go into tension as the triangle opens ip - so they should...
agreed. i'm waiting for someone to start making custom hardware for this like in the 'figure 9' thread.

couple of these mounted...
been thinking on this.
i think for better results i'm going to run the tarp line through my ring buckles (without threading) then along the suspension line to the prussik hook (stock HH). pull...
will be...
but there is the simplicity of keeping everything on the same line.
this weekend for me too.
i'll have the stock Asym tarp.
compare and contrast. :)
i think this will work.
tarp tied to huggers or ring binders or biners or even the hammock susp. line - but out near the ends.
then with a second line (or tensioner) pull the tarp down to the...
maybe the prussik setup that is stock on an HH?
or a tensioner could work too.
Yeah, the tress were pretty far apart - so I sagged quite a bit. I choked the huggers and had maybe 2-3 feet on each end of the line - so I was way out. Pulled as tight as I could and adjusted once...
nother pic... wow, i am close to the road! just up and down that little gully.
was really loud this afternoon when i was taking it down. don't know how i slept!
...
did you say fozzy bear? he can use a phone - so he most definitely can open a bear canister...
http://content.answers.com/main/content/wp/en/2/28/Fozzie.jpg
sounds like he needs some chain and a lock...
i'll get more creative with my hang spots - but this was the first time i set up to sleep (aside from rigging the gear in the living room).
i knew it was going to be windy - but i wanted the...
For sure... after there are enough of these in the wild I'm sure we'll be on to the next latest and greatest deterent. :)
I think there have been instances in the ADKs where canisters have been...
not a highway, but a 2 lane road that runs right into town. only place i have a flat spot with decent trees, without heading down into the ravine.
noisy until about midnight... then picked up...
good to know... thanks. :)
Got my first overnight hang in last night.
Temps got down to 35... I think colder by the look of the freezing water on the drainage ditch behind the house.
Set up in the dark. Stock HH Exped...
yeah, for sure.
planning on sneaking out near the LT this week. there was snow up at camel's hump and mansfield on sunday...
