Wow, I didn't even realize OES has their own subforum. My apologies. I realize now my post was basically noise. What a shame

I'm about to do my first long hike in a couple of years and was thinking of replacing my OES MacCat tarp that I use over my hammock. So I went to the website (outdoorequipmentsupplier.com) and it's...
What is with these Tree Huggers. The ones I bought 3 years ago are just as strong as the first time I used them. Are they making them out of some cheaper material now?
How does that weight compare to other fabrics like Spinnaker and the like?
A properly hung JRB ORM is great. I was in 35 degree weather with fairly strong winds and toasty warm a few weekends ago. I'm guessing wind chill had to put that down into the teens. Didn't test...
What is the material one would use to make tree hugger straps. Where do you get it? I've previously stated that I'm not much of a DIY-er but that looks like a project simple enough even for me. I...
Because not every night has the same temperatures.
Case in point - a couple of weekends ago in Vermont we had some warm weather it was in the 70s during the day and wasn't getting much below 55 at...
You are not going to need something with the loft of a Rocky Mtn Sniveler come spring, I think. I use the Old Rag Mtn (same amount of loft as the RMS) and while I certainly needed it for sub 40...
I am a cold-sleeper. In the cool fall temperatures in the mountains up here (when it can fall below freezing), just a pad underneath me simply won't cut it. I need the warmth of a thick down quilt.
I really liked holding my Nest in Snake Skins #4. Didn't compress it anymore than the compression sack did and I was happy with it. The black bishop sack thing isn't quite what I'm looking for. ...
This past weekend I was hiking the long trail with my HH UL BP Asym and a JRB Old Rag Mtn underquilt. It would have been very nice to be able to have some Snake Skins large enough to cover both...
REI actually sells a stuff sack that has some soft material (fleece maybe?) on the inside. It is designed to be turned inside out and function as a pillow. You just put your excess clothes in there...
I'm with you. This past weekend on the Long Trail, I was at Spruce Peak shelter and a strong storm was coming in so I got a chance to use my Weathershield. I only had the bottom. It hung fine,...
This past weekend I stayed at Goddard Shelter in Vermont when it got down to 38° at night. This was with solid winds all night so the windchill probably had it down close to 20°, if not lower. I...
Well that's cryptic. How did they "let you down"?
1 Hammock -- HH UL Backpacker Asym
1 Tarp - MacCat Deluxe
3 Quilts - JRB Nest, JRB Old Rag Mtn and JRB Old Rag Mtn (long)
I am not a DIY-er. I prefer buying something well made where someone...
I think I'll bring the undershield but only use it in case of emergency in such conditions. It's not much weight and were something like this to happen to me, I would be really bummed.
I sleep very cold and need a lot of warmth. Quilts really work for me. Love the JRB ones. Unfortunately, pads just don't cut it for me. Besides I have having anything underneath me inside the...
Why not? I remember when you first had one you used to sing its praises over on WhiteBlaze. What happened to make you dislike them?
Really dumb question: What is the point of the half-hitch(es)? What purpose do they serve? I never tie them.
Well I might not be convinced about the shields but you can pry my JRB quilts from my warm, dead, hands.
I went with the ORM Long. We'll see how it treats a cold sleeper like me in Vermont this weekend.
I have one of these. I have never used it. The last time I took my Hennessey Hammock and my JRB quilt on the Long Trail in Vermont around this time of year (2 years ago) I didn't have one. Yet...
I was pretty sure before and I'm positive now. I'm sticking with the Old Rag Mtn. I just bought the Long a few moments ago.
Thanks. It sounds like the normal JRB quilt should be plenty wide for me.
And yes, I am definitely a cold sleeper!
Actually I thought about the WM Cloud 9 Comforter. It's 55" wide which seems a nice compromise between the Old Rag Mtn and the Katahdin. The problem is, they don't sell online, they don't rate it...
(I couldn't find a forum for Over-quilts so I'm using this one since it seems the closest)
I am going from a sleeping bag in my hammock to an over-quilt. However I have concerns about the width...
Well that's odd. The board says you guys posted this today so the item should be the same but when I go to the link it's not selling a hammock it's selling shorts.
Well I didn't have the cash to buy two now and I really needed something warmer for the underside so I went with the regular on the Old Rag Mtn. Just ordered it. Let's hope it will keep me warm...
I just bought a few different lengths and diameters of tree huggers and carry them around with me. The flexibility that gives me in choosing trees and setups is worth the extra few ounces to me.
Great. Thanks! Just to be safe, I think I will order them in two separate orders. I'll get the long first because I KNOW I will want it on the top and just try it on the bottom to see how it is.
I am going to buy two JRB Old Rag Mtn quilts for some late fall/winter hiking. I am 6 feet tall exactly.
I'm fairly certain that I will get the LONG quilt for the overquilt but I would like...
Bummer. For a minute there I was confusing the No Sniveller with the Nest Down Under. I thought I was going to get a 2.9-inch baffled Nest which is really what I'm looking for. I realize the Old...
I just posted about this on WhiteBlaze. Does anyone know anything more about this? They already have it on their quilt comparison chart but not in the main catalogue
