Well it was an amazing learning experience as far as my limitations and a few things I should have brought. It was a bit cooler at night than I anticipated so that was.. Well cold. There was also a...
Hey y'all! I joined this forum a year or two ago.. Insert life story.. Well now I'm finally going on a three day two night hike with my homemade hammock and tarp tomorrow. I'm going to Shenandoah...
I am planning on heading out Thursday morning. Haven't fully planned my trip yet but I might meet you there. Ill get back to you and let you know.
Edit: going to be doing a loop on the southern...
I enjoyed the experience so far... no I will not make another tarp. Lol. Rained all day and my craft room got painted so I had to push the pics and work back a day.
Oh boy is Sil fun to work with... aahhh you got me that's not true. Flat felled seam wasn't a fun first stitch eiither! Progress as of this morning. Rough size of 10x10 (havent measured yet) the tarp...
Yeah that's what I imagine grey would look like. Mines definately not that color and I checked my order sheet it was grey. I like the color so I'm keeping it. If it came yellow or red I may have...
Ok I don't mind the color was just unsure if it actually was gray.
+1 the dimensions are 67" wide and I got an extra 8" long. Also looks to be top quality.
I got my order of 7yards gray silnylon seconds today. Opened it up and noticed it looked oddly. Like olive green. Just wondering if anyone else got gray is this gray? I imagined the gray of hammock...
You could glue two ziplock bags together and hang one bag on each side. Idk if it would work just popped in my head. Obviously would have to be fairly even weight wise.
I don't have any links or pics or personal experience making one....BUT I do recall reading about a pack cover doubling as a gear hammock. I was going to just set the cover on the ground with the...
7 yards silnylon 2nds.
50ft 1.2 tech line
30ft 1.9 tech line
25ft shockcord
5 cordlocks
2 metal d rings
=$70 with shipping.
Guess that's not bad since I got the cord for uq/pod suspension
I might just make the full rectangle LOL. From there and i can fold and sew i suppose. Will order the material tomorrow.
Thanks for all the help.

This is what I'm thinking now. I'm not sure if those dimensions will work for doors or not. I'd like them to be attached...
Also has anyone found a cheaper source than diygearsupply. Probably going to get some seconds but I can't bring myself to order unless I look around.
Fire your pics helped a lot. That looks to be what I'm planning for the doors.
Would I just need to do extra fabric on the corners or all tieouts. And I planned to have 4 tieouts on each side. Debating cutting the lengths so that I could pull them in like doors without having...
Planning on making a tarp with tax refund rather than buying one. I would like to hear comments and opinions.
1.3oz sil nylon. Dimensions 120x96/10x8. Obviously its a rectangle. No special cat...
Ha I can see the title is confusing. Wife is inside where its warm. Weird I know..
Visiting the Mom in Law...thank you hammock goodness. Got my setup under the deck on two 6x6s. Supposed to be in the 30's I think. They just think its neat so I don't have to make an excuse!
Lol it's not our fault. We could stop whenever we wanted! Green center with brown sides sounds awesome.
For my DIY it's just whipped without the channel but i found the sides will sag more if when i whip it the edges are even. To make it tighter when i bunched up the end for whipping i pulled the edge...
Just to confirm you measure the distance between the whipping laid flat and then i would measure it with someone else in it for what is comfortable for me?
I dont cut mine at all when i made my DIY hammocks. Just rolled the hem and it disappeared! it does make it cleaner though just if you cant afford it you dont have to hold off on the project.
That's exactly what i like to do! I can't watch videos at work though i can check the forums. I'll mark this as a watch for later vid!
Lol yeah no kidding. Maybe there was a special? It may work leaving it slack though. When you do that just remember if you do end up cutting and whipping it will be a little different than the slack....
I have a peapod. Obviously most of my body is covered. What kind of options have there been for people like me. I was thinking cutting a small piece to clip to RL and just drap over the top quarter...
What kind of temps do you expect? How many layers is it?
Yay for hammocks!
What are some natural bug repellents instead of chemicals and garlic. There has to be some other options.
Well ill be the first to say Thanks! Seriously though thanks to everyone as well. Really got me on the right track.
I was terrified yesterday when my dog got in with me. I had considered getting my 65# golden retriever in my doulbe layer DIY hammock. Well yesterday i was testing out my SINGLE layer, note im about...
Wooo HOooooo!
There is a head and a foot end? I just lay in it which ever direction i think will work best with where it is, sun, wind etc.
The only part to fail me was the suspension which in the end was my own fault for setting it up wrong.
If only I had it and the time.
I have read Shug's article on hammock camping. Whooo Buddy to ya Shug. Im writing a paper and i would like an article that focuses more on the low impact to nature side rather than the social side i...
Finally got out and got some grosgrain. Ran it along all the sides of the pod and at the head end so I can cinch it up. Still having a hard time finding shockcord or the dohicky to keep the cord...
I always imagined a 3/4 uq for someone your size would just be a 2/3 uq for a six foot guy like myself? How do you label a quilt 2/3 or 3/4 rather than just the specific dimentions alone. Wether its...
Its still hard for me to picture the baffle. My question is why not just sew the inner and outer layer together not only on the edges but where the baffles should be. For example every 7 inches sew a...
Anyone have experience with duck feathers. Been reading they pack down small like goose down and are almost as warm yet cheaper. May be a good alternative
My peapod is made from a sleeping bag. No where near as good as speer pods. I tried cinching the head end but the cord was all over my head!
Here's my idear. Just cinching the bottom Half and...
Can't wait to find out how it goes! Sweet dreams.
Great idea! It can hold up temporary UQs while I figure out how I'm going to mod them.
Don't let my wife see this! I have a slight thought that she called you with this info!
Looks great! Nothing better than multi multi purpose, did I say multi purpose?, gear. Also we have the same stand so plus one there!
I got a big bag to mod into a pod but I still think it will be to short. Cinching the end puts it right above my head and is irritating. Considering scratching it into an uq
I just did a double layer of the same material. Can't go wrong with top or bottom!
I'm still confused by baffles. Could I just sew the inner and outer layer together. Sew three sides together. Then sew lengthwise up to the fourth edge that's not sewed. Fill the opening and then sew...
Bringing this post back to life from last year. I am for sure going to be modifying my peapod i made. Mine just comes up and over my head and leaves and opening at my head. New inspiration to sew up...
Hampton roads area here. Seems like we have a lot of people in va and md that could set a date. SO I CAN TAKE LEAVE!! I neeed a break!
