Well on the rings... Was that 200# working load, or 200# breaking strength... They are two entirely different things..
I was thinking just a couple passes of plumbers cloth would be sufficient... But hang your own hang...

Maybe scuff them up a little, the aluminum ones I have seen have a slight texture to it, chrome may be too smooth for it...
But I have not played with rings so this is just a thought...

I tried the warbonnet method... It is such a small seam, a coat hanger barely fits... And that's after ripping out the seams at the end... I got a really thin wore through, attached my hollow 550 and...
Yeah I went and read through the thread you linked... I have some silver 550 that I was going to do standard whipping with, now I can try this...
I'll read up on the warbonnet style and see if it works on my daughter's turquoise one since my silver paracord came in the mail today...
With a small enough string and some wiggle you could probably run a string through it...
No problem... Been there done that... It happens to us all...
You don't attach to the whipping... You larks head right below the whipping... So that the whipping keeps the larkshead from sliding off...
No you don't... You can flap from the start... You can also fold it in a "w" where you make the "u" and then bring up the middle... They all change one property or another of the lay... None better...
Might be tightening too much... But you can do the knotty mod, and then retie the ends to suit the right amount of flap... That's what cool about cavemans way... It can be retied in 10 minutes... You...

Caveman helped me make one at the Texas hangout a few weekends back... I used some ugly paracord because its what I have... It works... We also tried different whipping methods... I have yet to play...
