chance of Tropical Storm force winds and lots of rain as of tomorrow afternoon per the latest report. I usually volunteer for Red Cross, but am securing things at my stained glass warehouse, locking...
I've filled in three surveys so far, another one at the end of Sept when I hang in O'Leno State Park.
using whoopies, though it's a little more weight. Whoopies work well, but I
get more advantages from the rings and caribiner overall. Am still tinkering with different setups for different...
Welcome from Venice, Florida.
the best site is the Hennessy one for all the basics. For other techniques that will save time in hanging, you'll find a ton of info on this site, or do a search for Hennessy hammock on YouTube.
I...
that's my favorite river in the state. I'll be up for a week in September to see some land I have near Worthington Springs. Let's kayak the Itchetucknee then!
Hello from Venice, Florida (we must be neighbors!)
changed recently. I've camped in three state parks in the last month.
Look at the recent thread listed below for more info...

I live about 4 miles from Oscar Scherer SP so will stop by and talk to the Rangers. They're pretty nice and I don't expect any problem hammocking there (except for those pesky mosquitoes!).
I've hammock camped at Myakka State Park, and last weekend at Silver River State Park. The Rangers are fine with this as long as tree-huggers are used. They were very interested in the hammocks and...
Just spent a couple days at Silver River State Park, (Silver Springs, Florida) while kayaking Juniper Springs and the Silver River. What a GREAT park...and it's open for hammockers thanks to the...
I use a Noah 9 and it works great. Heavier than more expensive tarps, but the Noah is excellent- lots of tie-outs, waterproof, strong, etc.,etc.
paddle the Sante Fe to the Suwanee is a great trip, though there was a report of green slime at Poe Springs last week. The river is 5' lower than a few years ago. (The overdraining of the acquifer...
Hi and welcome from Venice, Florida
this one, but will be at Silver Springs/ Juniper Springs at the end of the month kayaking and camping w/ 3 other new hangers.
and it hasn't come thru yet. For heavy wind and rain though, I use my Hennessy Hex. The Noah 9 tarp is the main one I use when I want a lttle more coverage than the stock Hennessy Asym tarp. You...
Thanks for the pics!
No hiking this trip as I was planning to leave early to kayak. There are lots of trails to hike at Myakka, though water levels are very, very low currently. Birding is excellent at the N. Lake, and...
Just did an overnight at Myakka River State Prk, and followed up with kayaking in the Englewood, Florida area. Had a great night hanging in my Hennessy UL Backpacker and a Kelty Noah 9.
I use whoopies now, have used rings/biner on a HH Exped Asym for some time without problem, but hear that this can cause wear on the Spectra support ropes.
What if, before tying the Garda knot,...
Sunnysports has the Noah 9 on sale now for $44.95

I used to use snakeskins for both tarp and HUBA but now stuff the Hennessy Hex or Kelty Noah 9 into a mesh bishop bag so it can dry more easily.
Welcome from SW Florida (used to live in the Ozarks near Table Rock Lake in the 60's).
This looks similar to a British product used by SAS and spec forces, as well as disaster services. Those run about $55 and are good down to 15-20 degrees. I mentioned them on www.paddling.net about 6...
When my HH treehuggers were too short, I went to the junkyard and bought two
lengths of 6-8' seatbelts. Each length came with a loop at one end and the other end can be used as is with a...
...if it is not already claimed. I've a friend who is ready to begin hammocking and this will be a great start for her. Please send me your e-mail address and I'll pay by Paypal right away.
I have the Noah 9 and use it for 3 season (kayak camping and hiking). It works great and the tie downs are superb. Rain won't seep thru like sil-nylon. The Noah 12 seems huge but works well for 4...
I'll take it. Do you accept paypal?

Rings and biners, but am making whoopies.
They look real good. Thanks for the link to the thread.
I'm sure this has been covered before but I couldn't find the exact threads...I've used the Walmart car covers (grey Tyvek) to make a "kayak cocoon" before to keep sunlight/moisture off of my sea...

Back in the mid 70's I used to bicycle camp all around Florida and got tired of sleeping in a tube tent on the ground. Tried a cheap net hammock ...no fire ants and no hard ground, but there were...
I was given mine as I used to travel a lot...like a gypsy, so Romany fit. It's also the name of my favorite kayak (NDK Romany)
The deadline has been been moved up on a large painted and stained glass repair I'm working on for a local cathedral, and instead of coming up to hang on Saturday, I'll be delivering lots of leaded...
I'm usually leading kayak tours on the weekends but don't want to miss it so am looking forward to meeting you all at Buck Lake. Am coming up from Venice, Fl.
Welcome from SW Florida!
but will try to post an answer by Monday. I do marble and wood sculpture / stained glass for a living (and have a kayak tours business). The kayak tours provide lots of time with wildlife which all...

night in SW Florida. 9 people, 8 tents and my hammock (HH Expedition with carabiners/rings). Most of the kayakers had never seen or been in a hammock before. Tents ranged from Walmart specials,...
whoopies. I just got back from an overnight kayak campout. I use a HH Expedition with rings and carabiners. 8 other people used tents...from tarptents to "comfortable" brand name (pricey!) tents with...
Hi Dave, I just got a HH Expedition last month and using it regularly. I'm in Venice, about 20 miles to the south of you. Welcome to a forum where lots of people hang around. Terry
