Thanks for the quick reply Kitsap. I mirrored Bic's (aka, Hiking Dad) design. The only mod to the design was the cat cut on the long edges--I opted for 4" cat cuts vs. 6". Using Dutch's bridge...
Just DIY'd a bridge hammock. Was wondering if there is a rule of thumb for the ridgeline similar to a gathered end design (e.g., 83%)? Thanks!
As a bonus, doing all this should give you a greater understanding of the mechanics of the machine.
Have you checked the timing on it yet? The 201's have a rotary shuttle versus an oscillating one. Make sure there are no burrs on the hook and that it is smooth wherever the thread will touch it. ...
I have a 1936-vintage Singer 201-2. Straight stitch only (but can go in reverse to lock the stitches) and it has the potted motor versus the belt drive. I've sewn thru 4 layers of thick denim and...
Beautiful quilt! Very well done! Looking forward to your report on results of use...
Welcome to the addiction!!!
You aren't missing anything. Your plan covers it all.
I have never had any problems with the insulation migrating down into the bobbin area or getting tangled around the feed dogs. That said, I do compress the insulation and use lots of pins when...
Yep. That's enough to keep a person busy for 3 days! Well done.
Hope your quilt meets your expectations. BTW, since I posted these plans I have made a couple additional quilts. I recommend omitting all the darting called out in the plans and have the short edge...
Recommend putting the line locks on just in case. That way you have options. Options are always a good thing.
G'Day from Northwest Florida! I'll actually be in your neck-of-the-woods (bush) the middle of next month. Will be doing some work at Orchard Hills; about 1 hour outside of Sydney.
Plans look solid to me. Number of baffles is really up to you. Some folks report they experience less down shifting the more baffles that are used versus a quilt with less baffles. That seems...
Very well done, Uncaged! Really like the mods/design changes you incorporated to make the quilt modular (TQ or UQ). Think I'll crib some of those changes on the next couple of Apex quilts I make. ...
Where at in WV? I'm originally from Huntington...

Looks great! That is a great result on the low weight as well--especially if it does get you down to 30 degrees. Let us know how it works for you.
Well done, james_e84! Sounds like you applied some of the lessons-learned from those of us that have done these before (e.g., sewing the channels on before sandwiching everything together and sewing...
Well done! Looks good!
Well done! Looks good. Is that tea green?
+1 on using the boxed corners that Caminante suggests.
Here is a link to some build plans that you might find useful--just omit the directions for darts and substitute with the boxed corners. ...
Great looking tarp!
Totally understandable at 15-20 degrees angle. But the discussion was related to 0 degrees. Having used ENOs for 8+ years (yes, I am a fan of them), it is agreed that it's not too difficult to get...
Not sure how they'd do that. Consider the UQ has to cradle the hammock and provide some upward lift. Additionally, both the head and foot ends need cinched to close them off and prevent drafts from...
Curious to know how the zero degree ENO-ites rig up a UQ and get it dialed in. Think about that one... ENOs were my first foray into the hammock world. Had both a single and double. Double was my...
PM will be forthcoming...
I just recently made one myself. The build plans are at the link below. Be advised, although I used darts for the outer shell, and the plans call for darting they are NOT needed. I made another...
Where in UT are you located? Reason I ask is because if you're near the Ogden area there is another source there...
Guinea Pig,
Check out the UQ build plans at this link--it might help you understand "why" pleats/darts are needed/useful...

As an aside, I've never used this particular model, nor have I used a treadle for gear making. However, I HAVE used a 1930's-vintage Singer 201 and a 70's-vintage Singer 237 which are both electric...
It appears to be a Singer 66 "Redeye".
There is a little bit of info on it at this link:

Good to hear you're getting along with the injector now! Once you get them dialed in and learn their quirks and limitations, and unless something major goes awry, I've found the older machines are...
Yep. Just take the old o-ring in and get something as close to original as possible. They're pretty easy to find in specialty sewing stores and some big box (I.e., JoAnn's, etc.) stores. Good luck!
Nicely done.
I also normally use a small gauge wire for long buries in Amsteel, Lash-It, Zing-It or Dynaglide. However, if I'm only doing fixed eyes that don't require a long length of bury I switch to a long...
Nice! I like the ability to compress if needed.
No darts for the inner shell. Simplest way to explain it is that after darting the outer shell, layer everything up in accordance with the plans and start sewing. Recommend reading post #11 above...
+1 on this response
Outstanding! Just be careful so that you don't spontaneously combust in it
Very nice! Great choice of colors between the fabric and thread. That HyperD feels really nice. Enjoy it.
Good luck! Post pictures when you're finished.
When you finally decide on your next injector, remember what you just stated... "...The speed and length of run time create a lot of heat and pressure on parts." Then think about which material can...
Here is a link to the 99K's threading instructions. I know it has been mentioned before, but you might to try re-threading and go step-by-step per the instructions. That might help narrow the scope...
On a related note, the presser foot DOES need to be down to engage the tension discs for the UPPER THREAD (not the bobbin thread). If you raise and lower the presser foot and watch the tension discs...
No, the presser foot does not need to be down for the top thread to loop the bobbin thread. Try this--remove the needle plate or whatever plate is above your bobbin. Slowly turn hand wheel and...
Sewing the shock cord channels to the outer shell first would make it much easier to align the other layers. Doing everything at once is challenging to keep everything aligned. By doing the...
The 60x126 crinkle taffeta is right at 1 lb. I've made quite a few of them; they are comfortable. 1 con to them though is they don't pack down as well as most others.
Sounds good. I like to go to Blackwater as well. Normally go to Bear Lake (primitive) or Hurricane when I go there. Also hit the Eglin reservation periodically (Jr Walton or Speck Pond areas).
Good looking rig there, Gold fever,
