Perhaps the 3-hour soak time is due to the fact the instructions have you fold and roll up the pants. I could see needing to allow plenty of time for penetration in that case. Thanks for sharing.

Why three hours? Is that in some instructions somewhere? I've never done that and now wonder if I'm doing it wrong when I go the soak route.

Also, the TSC stuff has an odor to it. So keep that in mind when making your decision. Bothers some folks, but not others.

Thus, proving that the very high concentrations don't give any better protection than the more reasonable and safer concentrations?

Hmmmm ... very good to know. My brother works for 3M and occasionally I can get 3M products (such as the Ultrathon with DEET) very cheap. I'll keep my eyes opened for this stuff too now.
Thanks!...
To my knowledge, these are two very different things. 3M Ultrathon is 34% DEET and applied to your skin. Sawyers (as we have been discussing it in this thread) is Permethrin and is NOT applied to...
Because permethrin is sold for clothing, for house spraying, for use on our bodies for lice, etc, all by consumers, I figure (hope) it's safe in one-half of one percent applications on outdoors gear...
