This has me perplexed as well. I suspect that is supposed to read conductive heat loss. As that would be the heat lost most associated with contact with the ground.

Wait?? What?? The Titanium version weighs MORE than the aluminum version?
Scratching my head at that one.
Very interesting idea nonetheless.

You are told correctly that ceramic knives work great for cutting amsteel. I picked up an inexpensive ceramic paring knife from the houseware section of my local department store. I think it was a...
Why compromise on the 12' width? Use this fabric.

or buy two of these kits and have someone sew it up for you.

A new Dutchware product release and no video showing the product and how it's used?
That just ain't Dutch, errr, Right. ;-)

That green watermelon skin/rind pattern is rather pleasing to the eye. I'm not digging the top cover flesh offering.

More information on the poly blend fabric itself would be useful. Is it a silicone impregnated fabric? Polyurethane coated? What is the fabric weight? How much does it stretch when wet?
Cheers
Your best weight savings is losing that extra weight/inches from your midsection. You're carrying that with every step you take along with the load on your back.

If you happen to have 1 tree or attachment point, then you can fabricate another with a bipod/tripod arrangement. There are many threads on here regarding single tree hanging options.

That's awesome. What is the widest fabric that can be printed?

Just keep in mind that you don't want a guyline that is too strong either. You'll want the line to give or slip before the material of your tarp breaks. Another popular option is braided mason...
The closest things to the SPINN fabric for tarps these days is the SilPoly fabric from RipstopByTheRoll and the Xenon fabric from Dutchware. They are silcone coated polyester based fabrics.

I am surprised that his merchant account provider hasn't shut him down for the number of chargebacks he has gotten over time.
That appears to be the same stuff as planer board line. That spool should be more than enough to get a continuous ridgeline and at least 4 guy out lines depending on how long you choose to make...
Yep. A tarp pitched high and wide and site selection to maximize air flow are your best bets for hot weather camping. Lighter colour fabrics are another. Shade cloth many be a third option if no...
Great tutorial here.
Just one note. The adjusting portion of line (18" piece) is acting as a UCR (utility constrictor rope), not as a whoopie sling. A whoopie sling has tension applied on both...
I disagree with this statement. The tarp is your shelter in a hammock system. If you buy a cheap tarp now and upgrade later you've wasted the money you spent on the cheap tarp. I would spend your...
Same Day Production will go great with your Home Delivery Service too. LOL. Great to see that you've got your production tuned so well.

There have been many people that make hammock tarps out of the hardware store poly tarp material and then install webbing loops for the ridgeline and guy out points. Do a search here and you'll find...
Another issue I've found with packing peanuts, is that they tend to stick to everything via static electricity. So encasing them in a nylon hammock body would be an adventure in getting them evenly...
I've used Zing-It and I've also used planer board line (hollow braid polyester dacron line). The planer board line can be found at most well stocked fishing supply places and costs a few cents per...
Planer board line is a pretty good alternative to zing it/lash it. It's is cheaper and usually available at you well stocked fishing gear supply place. It comes in 135# and 200# break strength...
This youtube video should give you some ideas. It is for doing an underquilt. However the method showing for adding the strips along the edges for the suspension should give you a method to sew up...
You are talking about the newer polyester based tarp fabric. The xenon fabric from dutchware is silicone on 1 side and PU coating on the other side. Ripstopbytheroll has SilPoly which is the same...
60" or 64" wide is pretty wide for a top quilt. You could easily reduce the width of the Snugpak Jungle blanket to 48" and get some weight and bulk savings for the blanket.
Where are you...

Use sketchup and manually place your pieces. There are only so many combinations to work through when laying out large pieces on rectangular fabric blanks.

As others have said, be safe and use 6x6 posts to hang your hammock from. Installing a beam at the top of the posts to minimize the posts flexing towards each other under load is also a good idea. ...
If you have a good outdoor store with a well stocked fishing section, get yourself some planer board line. It's a hollow braid polyester dacron line (almost no stretch), splices well and is...
Go to your local garden center or nursery and get yourself some shade cloth. They come in various percentages of light blocking. Here is one such example from Lee Valley.

Hammock Gear better hire some new thread injector operators at world headquarters. I think they are going to be busy with these new economy incubators.

This kickstarter project hit its funding goal. So we will see some of these creations in the wild later this year. Although, the estimated delivery date of November 2017 is off putting to me. ...
Just be aware that LSOH gets all of his materials from USA vendors. So the pricing would already include the exchange rate and shipping he had to pay to get the materials sent to him.

Great video, Shug. Sometimes, despite all of the suggestions you offer in the video, one still finds a gathered end hammock still produces calf ridge. Switching to a bridge hammock will completely...
If you have some DIY sewing skills (and access to a thread injector), you could get 2 of the Wide Asym Tarp Kits from MakeYourGear.com (the DIY Arm of Dutchware) and create yourself a 12'x12' tarp...
Have you considered going the permanent stand route? Ie Use 2 6x6 posts and sink them in the ground with some concrete? Or if you have to please a significant other, you could build a freestanding...
At least some decent cold temperatures. Can't say much for any significant snow after the all day rain we had in Southern Ontario today.
The Chipotle Pepper is a youth or child sized top quilt. Good for people up to 5' tall. I don't think this is a good comparison for the wearable sleeping bag the OP is looking at.

The best stakes I've found for use in frozen ground are long nails. Some use 6" Gutter spikes. I like the 8" or 10" landscape spikes (really big common nail) that are readily available at any big...
That sounds like a most interesting trip.
For one thing I would suggest taking a bigger tarp. If you are going to be camping in jungle and rain forest, you'll appreciate the extra dry space. I...
This the exactly how it should be done. Many people when starting cold weather camping, wear way too many layers to sleep in. This will cause them to sweat, making the layers absorb this moisture...
The CF-18 load out might work for a fast and light backpacking weekend. I think a C-130 Hercules or a C-177 Globemaster 3 would be more conducive to a winter car camping load out. ;)
Caper would...
Spill the beans, bkrgi. Do you have a link to this 5oz windproof cotton? I'd be shocked if it was available in Canada.

Do you plan on heating your shelter? If so, a canvas wedge tent might be the way to go. Beckel Canvas makes some nice canvas wedge tents. Add a stove jack, a stove and a couple of adjustable poles...
There are a number of hammock hot tent designs on this site. Just do a search and you'll find lots. I have a rather large and tall canvas wedge tent with doors on both ends. If I was to design...
The original reason for the tarp tensioners was to mitigate the inherent stretch in silnylon tarps and to also create some give in the guy line so if there was a large wind storm or someone tripped...
Spinn tarps are no longer made as the fabric can't be sourced. In the last year or so silicone/polyurethane coated polyester fabrics have made up for that. One is called SilPoly from Ripstop By The...
Another polyester dacron hollow braid line is planer board line. It usually comes is 135# and 200# strength ratings. I got a 300' spool of organe 200# Tuf-Line brand a few years back for $10 or so....
My suggestion too. I'll wager that you could get any of the cottage vendor tarp makers to make you a 11'x'11' tarp using this xenon-wide waterproof fabric from Dutch.
