Basically it's a slippery sheet bend. If there is a specific name for it, I don't know. Others will be along soon. Looks interesting!

Cordage directly to the tree has been done, but it damages the trees. Most any managed park will tell you to pad it, whether it's a tree strap or simple cardboard under the amsteel. AFIK you can't...
I've actually made one for just this reason. The only problem I run into is a wet tarp. Gotta keep the insulation dry and there are also times I need to use my tarp by itself. So I'm using for the...
It's hard to trace the way it runs from the pic, but that looks... upsidedown maybe? Just not quite right. Maybe I'm seeing things. Dunno.

Greets from historic Stowe! Gonna make it to MAHHA in October?

To go along with the HYOH vibe we've got going on, the question) I would think) boils down to "what is more important to you: always being dry or weight?" And if the answer is "weight", how wet are...
Ahhh. Ok.

It looks awsome, but what's a hanging pod stand?

Lost And Found!
See me at breakfast... of course without your phone, how are you reading this? Hmm.... [emoji2]

Sweet. I'm leaving Philly about 10:30 and making a couple of stops. I'm shooting for 3 or so.

My relationship is saved!
Sent from my LG-M322 using Tapatalk
Sweet. Thank you! I may take you up on that.
Sent from my LG-M322 using Tapatalk
Looking forward to meeting you in person this time!

I'm going to pick up a couple of cheap, square sleeping bags to supplement my kit. I'm sure I can improvise one between my girls underquilt and hammock. I can deal with the cold, but I don't want her...
I'm starting to get nervous. The low keeps dropping and I'm not equipped for much below 40.

Happened to me too, and I think I also blocked in someone else for a little bit. this time I'll be pulling in to the group parking area long enough to unload, then park elsewhere. I'm also bringing...
Just called the office for an update. Looks like 2 out of 4 of the new stalls will be functional, so at least we don't have to wander far in the wee dark hours.

There may be no interest, but as there aren't any other activities on the sheet, I added myself to the list to do a presentation on trauma kit (Blow Out Kit) basics and contents. If there is any...
I always carry 5 gallons anyway, but ifI had an enclosed canopy, I'd totally bring a port-a-potty.

Agreed. The latrines at Ft Benning were much more pleasant.

If the forecast holds, I think it will be on. She also told me to call back closer to the date, so I'll update you around the 16th or so.
Sent from my LG-M322 using Tapatalk
Sweet. See you there. I got the GF to come with. It's her first real outing so I'm really hoping the new latrines are at least partially open or else it might be her last! Lol
Sent from my LG-M322...
Dunno. I was just there the one time in the fall and didn't think to ask.

To reply to my own question, the answer is "maybe".
They were supposed to be open, but the footers weren't dug deep enough, so the concrete apron around the building heaved with the frost in a few...
My schedule changed so I'll be coming in Friday. The girlfriend is a go as well.
Do we know if the new latrines are open yet?

I just use biners. I've got an XLC with whoopies and tree straps. Biners add like an ounce and a half and no knots. Next best choice imho is a Marlin spike hitch. Both are great choices.

Down. You are laying down.

Do it right and it might fit in your wall locker. Does your bed/rack have the drawer underneath?

If it's a hike, I'd definitely take back up. If it's a car trip I can always take refuge, but that's just me. You might live closer to the edge[emoji3]
I've got a TQ/Pod kind of idea I want to...
Sweet. When will you get a chance to test it and how cold?
Sent from my LG-M322 using Tapatalk
That is a magnificent thing you have done there. Good job! How's the weight?
So did i.

Just time. I can relate, though. There is something reassuring about the solid ground under you. Then I realized I was no more vulnerable in a comfortable fabric tune than I was in an uncomfortable...
Do we have a food thread yet? And should I bring cabbage salad again or something different?
Sent from my LG-M322 using Tapatalk
I'm sure you'll get there first, so save me a couple of sets of trees. I'll bring the Dewar's. [emoji3]

Nicely done!

Correct. Last minute, but I figure I might as well freeze with friends [emoji3]

The GF is having a girl's night and I'm getting out of the house. Tentatively heading for Pine Grove Furnace State Park or French Creek State Park in SE PA. Anybody wanna tag along or meet up?

I have no idea how such a thing is priced, but I need help with a topquilt/pod idea. It will have longitudinal baffles with 850 down. I'll supply all the materials. I need to know how much to...

Actually it was the tripod. The camera is a hand-me-down from my ex-brother-in-law. He melted the bottom by setting it on a toaster oven, so the card slot doesn't work. Lol. I'm limited to the...
Sunday, January 21, 2018 - Got out to enjoy the warm break in the weather for a few hours. Mostly cloudy, with the occassional sunny break in the cover.
Got to hang with the girlfriend, and put...
That's actually a pretty good way to go, in my experience. The truckers hitch can be a bit fiddly if you are using a slippery half hitch for the loop (versus an overhand loop) but is flexible....
Following with great interest. I would think it should be ok if there was no UV exposure. Interested to hear the wisdom of the hive-mind.

Just go out and hang. Mind the window makers (which applies to tents too) and you'll be fine. There are lots of opinions, but very few "wrong" things. There are tons of options, but hammock camping...
What he said.
And I guess to answer the original question, I like polyester upholstery thread. Then again, I don't see any reason you couldn't sacrifice a piece of the amsteel and unravel some...
