Sure, none taken. I sincerely hope nobody has to use spray or anything else. Safe hiking.

To place my opinion in context, there are no grizzlies in OR to my knowledge. I'm more concerned with people or even mountain lions. After a few years in the Army I'd imagine I'm fairly capable of...
I think people are a bigger threat on the trail than bears are. That's probably what drives most of the handgun carry. There are also hunters who purposely hunt with pistols and apparently bring...
Sounds like you have things worked out. For what it is worth, I used that hammock down into the 20s. You may have abandoned the idea, but a space blanket works well as an underquilt. I sewed one...
Not that specific method, but yes. I'm a big fan of space blankets and keeping it out side of the hammock seems to deal well with any condensation issues.
Nice to see someone else wearing camo in the woods.
Fantastic work on my quilt. I really appreciate how smoothly everything went and it is exactly as I requested. The stuff sack was unexpected and much appreciated! I will be back again.
Happy hanging!
Yes. I've got a friend who will be interested also.
I'd be interested it finding out about getting that too. If I would have known how rare it was going to be I would have bought more from Thru-Hiker.
That was the fastest board sale I've ever done.
I have a used one. Nothing wrong with it that I can see. Send me a pm if interested.
Quilts should be lighter depending on material. I made a 5oz Climashield bag/quilt that weights about 1.6 pounds on my scale. Not necessarily super accurate, but it is noticeably lighter than my...
I've got an Explorer if the barter does not work out.
I'm glad I'm not the only one sick of loose dogs. I even like dogs and grew up with them, but am really tired of owners not controlling them. Bad trail manners and unsafe in my opinion.
I...
I have had good luck with my Speer tarp and enjoy the Speer style hammock I made over the HH Expedition it repaced. Speer is an easy company to order from. I've had fast service in the past. For...
It works fine around 28 or 29 for me. I have not had a chance to get all the way down to 20 though.
I think you will be happy with it.
I'm glad I bought when I did I guess.
Yep, that's a brown Winter Tarp in my pic.
I have the Speer WT and I'm very happy. I have not double checked, but the ridge line appears to be the long dimension. The doors work great and the interior is huge. In all actuality, they are...
Making a Speer style hammock is a lot simpler than I thought it would be. I hated using a pad or multiple bags in a Hennesy, but the top entry style is much better for winter so far.
The amount of pull outs and being able to order brown pushed Speer's Winter Tarp over the top for me. The doors are great and the color disappears in the woods. No regrets.
When I made my 5.0 oz XP quilt I did not use any quilting loops at all. Kifaru does not either on their woobie. Has anybody noticed this being a problem? It kind of seems like Climashield is being...
I would leave the armpits alone. I really like having that area vented out, especially considering the field jacket liner gets warm quick if you are moving.
Yes, the doors are in and are probably hard to see.
My Winter Tarp came in brown. It may depend on what fabric he has available

That's kind of heavy for the size. Also, my Winter Tarp came with a stuff sack.
I'd also recommend Speer. The Winter Tarp is outstanding if you expect to be in any kind of winter storm. I believe it is more than worth carrying even though it is right on your weight line.
I think a simple slip knot works best. Bring the webbing around itself, make a blight and bring it back through the opening. I've been using it with no slipping and it sounds like it's what the...
DIY Tactical has 1.9 coated ripstop in some different colors if you don't mind buying online.

It's uncoated, but they have a bunch of other seconds under "ripstop nylon"
Thru-hiker.com had coyote brown sil nylon a while back. They have the momentum-90 in coyote right now that is really subtle. I'm actually surprised to see much interest in that color on the...
The whole system works as advertised. There are apparently a couple of us on the board who have used the system in Korea during winter. It was really cold, but the black, green, and bivy on top of...
I thought it was about the most useful part of the system. Worked well in the rain and would suffice as a bag on its own if the weather was not too cold. If you are counting grams, than there are a...
I agree with HH being a great start. I've had mine for about three years and like it. That being said I will probably switch to a Speer eventually. I had no idea what I was looking at when I first...
So I guess I'm not so special after all...
