Funny you should say that. The river was up about 2.5 to 3 feet when I took this pic so I had a little more "front yard" later in the week.
This is my setup minus the tarp so that the river would show up in pics. Hanging about five feet from the edge of the French Broad River near the NC/TN line.

Hello, welcome, and thanks for your sevice. Could you say you are hangin' your booty in Djibouti?
sorry for the lame joke and possible slight on someone's homeland but I couldn't resist.
I was considering this. I have read somewhere that you can fit the bug net in the same bag as the DN for even easier packing/setup. Is this true?
Welcome from Kannapolis. Surprised at how many of us there are in NC.
It seems when you start making stuff for yourself, you never want to buy somebody else's stuff, even if it would be just as expensive.
Welcome to HF! I have lost many hours of productivity here so you aren't the first.
Welcome from NC again.
Sounds to me like the best thing to do is just scavenge the down and make the UQ based on one of the many designs you can find here.
where does one acquire this permethrin?
I like the tarp over the ridge line, just b/c I like it that way. Seriously, it does seem to provide more support in windy conditions. Don't know about hanging stuff from it. Wouldn't that cause sag...
Definately thanks for the info guys. The video was awesome is looks like how I will go with my suspension. Just need to get some zing-it or mason's line. Guess I will just have a lot of extra shock...
Good suggestion but that still doesn't give me a total length.
Also, to clarify, is that 5' of shock chord per side (left and right) with zing-it on each end going to the triangle thingies? So...
I have looked around and can't find a reccomendation for the length of the shockcord suspension for an UQ. I made a 72" long UQ and with channels on each side. How long should my shock cord be to...
Welcome. I do a lot of traveling for work and I am constantly looking for a great place to hang, or for cool disc golf holes.
The great thing about the Klemheist is you can tie it on a vertical rope fairly easily with one hand. Just sling the the knot around the line and let it wrap itself, then push the know up through...
Pic of the final product. Keeps the bear nice and warm.

I just finished my first UQ the other night. I used 1.1 breathable ripstop and two layers of 2.5 oz/yd climashield. The inner layer I cut about 3" narrower than the outer much like the three layer...
Another soldering iron fan here (thanks MadWolf). Also, I use a glass cutting board to do my cutting on. The nylon leaves a black mark that wipes right off. Wife just about killed me until she saw...
OK, I'm new to hammocking but not to engineering. SGT ROCK's theror is flawed I hate to say. The tension in you webbing decreases dramatically with the length of contact with tree trunk. Try this:

This looks awesom and simple. One question though.
How does this setup affect the attachment and/or closure of your bug net?
Also, as far a tips and tricks about the fire itself. We have anywhere from 4 to 8 fairly experienced campers playing with, i mean managing the fire. We try to keep it low so we don't have to feed...
Thanks or the information. It always amazes me how much people on this site know about ... well just about everything.
Is there a lightweight fabric that would be safe to use near a campfire and not get holes from the floating embers?
Just curious. We camp in groups and like to gather around the fire but like to...
You get 500 interwebs points. Spend them wisely.
My personalized licence plate, it's my occupation, sort of. I also like puzzles, so let me know when you decifer it.
Hello All!
I am new to the hammock scene. So new that I don't have a hammock yet but it is on order. A friend of mine (MadWolf) let me try his out the other day and I am hooked. After too many...
