Welcome from SW Missouri
Get some sort of underquilt protector. I'd suggest a bigger fly too, but the UQ protector is almost a must have in my mind. They are on here used once in a while, but not that expensive new. You...
I don't really enjoy solo hiking or camping. At 64, I find comfort in having someone with me in case of medical emergency, falls or getting lost. My regular hiking buddy passed a bit over a year...
Don't use any kind of synthetic line for drip lines. I use lamp wicking I got at ace hardware, but cotton shoe string works great. As the water runs down your suspension the drip line needs to...
Interesting. I have used mine several times for naps in the hammock and find it works fine. It is a slick little rascal, and I just toss it in the gear shelf on the XLC and then put it under my...
Wow! That's barely a kids hammock. I cant imagine that being comfortable at all. Also the cheap hammocks are not that much cheaper than a good cottage vendor single layer hammock. Saving a few...
I think lots of folks have security measures. I understand your feelings, but I think gun talk is not really something that is allowed on here. You might PM a mod and ask.
Welcome from SW Missouri
I didn't see any choice of color so I assume they were all the same? I am looking forward to your review of it, as my use will be basement only until the weather here cools drastically.
Thanks, I will try that tomorrow.
This is a bit wordy so forgive me. I am also cut and pasting so if it says something goofy let me know and I will clarify it. I ordered the "free" Klymit seat and got all three offerings. First be...
They also have some kind of giveaway going right now where you pay about $10 in shipping and no charge for the pillow.
...
LOL, I doubt there is a person on here who hasn't done that at some point. The only bad time would be if you were heading into dangerous cold weather without testing the limits of gear. Otherwise...
You're welcome. I agree at your height a wider hammock may be a better choice. The 12' I don't know about, but I guarantee the vendors here would have great insight on that. There is so much...
You kind of answered your own question when you said haven't dialed one in yet. It is hard to find a hammock that just instantly is perfect for you. Think about that for a second. I am 5'9" and...
[QUOTE=hutzelbein;1977267]There must be something wrong with me. The only thing I am sometimes scared of, depending on the situation, is other humans. Or actually: male humans. However, only if I'm...
That guy is one of the best on youtube.

+1 on the figure four shift.
Shug once posted a video of lightning hitting pretty darn close while hammocking. It was an eye opener on how it comes so close with no real warning. I remember him saying don't do what we do, lol.
Happy Birthday Shug. I hope and pray you have many more.
I quoted off the wrong post. I meant to quote the post earlier commenting on OV, not the video link. I am kind of old and simple and make a lot of mistakes like that. I just wondered if OV might...
Did they know who they were sending it to? I would guess as popular as you are these days, if they knew it was going to you for review, you may have gotten a hand picked one that may have been a bit...
You don't sound dumb at all to me. Dumb would be to go on a trip to a remote area with never doing any testing first. I think you are smart to do research and find out what your gear will do. I...
LOL, that sounds like me. I am getting older and colder rapidly! If it is going to be 30f, I bring a minimum of 20 degree quilts, and some good warm sleep gear. I love reports like this, as they...
My sympathies to the family, and may he rest in peace.
You may end up having to experiment with an adjustable ridgeline and change the length a bit. I think my XLC is likely close to the 83% guide, but have never measured it. That is a guide that works...
Welcome from SW Missouri.
In Shug's picture make note the loop in the Whoopie Sling goes over the knot, not the toggle itself. It is very important and he stresses it greatly in his video.
You are welcome, and I think you came to the right place for info. Some of the guys on here have tons of experience and, unlike some other hobby forums I have been on, quite happy to freely share...
Talk to the vendors on here. Tell them a bit about your physical stats, kind of what you like in a sleeping surface, how and where you will use the hammock. They will be able to give some honest...
I carry a heavy duty contractor grade trash bag. it has many uses including ground mat for under the hammock. I also use it to protect down jackets and quilts in hikes where rain is possible.
It looks like if I priced this out right, the HG econ Burrow comes out to about $271. If I figured that right, I would say you are getting a good deal.
LOL, I guess my answer wasn't really an answer at that. I have never seen any actual studies on it either. You are right, good insulation is a lot of money, and it would be interesting to see some...
I ride in the winter, and can tell you the heated gear is great. But the gloves that run on rechargeable batteries last about 2 hours or so. If you want any kind of longer time, it has to run off...
As long as you don't leave them compressed long term, I don't see how that bag can hurt them. I suppose in theory a guy could over compress down and destroy it, but I don't see that happening...
Welcome to the forum. I have always wanted an adventure motorcycle and to make a long term trip. Instead I have a cruiser and do day rides. But one of the days, who knows? Anyway, again welcome...
All in all, pretty cheap lesson. A few bucks for some straps you can likely repurpose, no injuries and no ruined trip. You were smart to test at home, smart to then replace them with a quality...
Welcome to the forum.
A good underquilt will be light, durable, insulated to the temp level advertised and affordable relative to it's quality. In the real world good gear is never cheap. That said, there are cost...
That is a classy response. I like a company who is willing to compete without running down the competition. In my mind it shows the security that comes from having a great product. I don't own any...
It never quite worked like that for me. Full disclosure I am the opposite, a cold sleeper. But no matter I believe the principles are the same regardless of our tolerance differences for the cold. ...
That's what I was mumbling around about. I had to edit my response as I said non stretching where I meant non adjustable. The beauty of a fixed non adjustable structural ridgeline is that the lay...
I have never had any issues with paracord in the cold not holding a knot, so I am going to guess it may just have been a mental lapse while tying the knot. That said, paracord does seems to stretch...
Thank you. I am glad this was received the way it was meant, as a humor based way of thanking Shug for hours of info and entertainment. It is so nice to turn on a video to watch with my young...
It can be hard to find the right partner for hiking and camping, but one will show up eventually. Welcome aboard from Missouri.
Welcome to the site
1. He cost me too much due to all the gear I now buy.
2. His simple solutions make me realize how I over complicate things.
3. His easy way on the camera makes me realize I am a grumpy old...
I still like to camp, but at 63 I am no longer comfortable on the ground. Between the rocks, sticks, uneven lies and needing just the right slope to avoid getting up with a headache, I would have...
There are a lot of steps and parts in that scope. The hammock is much simpler. The good news in that is, a cottage vender here can make you a hammock mighty close to the stuff on Amazon or eBay...
