Great report! Glad you all had a good trip.
How was the trip?
That's what their calling for, then single digit lows Saturday. Warming closer to normal temps Sunday. Forecasts beyond two days out are usually guesses here...it may change as you get closer.
I was back country skiing in that area Sunday and made a stop at Dacy Clearing. It looks like you guys will be traveling on well traveled snow mobile trails all the way in to Fishbrook. I hope...
Nice work!
Also, I forgot to mention that I did increase the length and width since I'm 6'3 and have a safari deluxe. I'll post pics when it gets warm enough to test. It's currently -10F with -25 windchill.
A long patient search through a lot of thrift stores for high end, outerwear with fp labeled... I got impatient with the lat bit and cannibalized a North Face vest that was given to me and never...
All I have sewn prior to this was a hammock sock, a pillow, and some stuff sacks. I was a little intimidated to get started, but I have to say that it wasn't as menacing as I thought. Keeping all...
The instructions that I followed https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php?t=100587
And yes Nickhob, the no seeum mesh is just as you stated.
I finally completed my down underquilt. HUGE thanks to gidgetgirl and her detailed instructions.

The great thing about my job is that I can make anything "on the way home". I spun by the trailhead and the road to Dacy is definitely closed until spring.
Over 2' on the ground, that trail area gets a lot of snowmobile traffic so it's typically pretty packed down. I may venture back there this Sunday, if I do I'll let you know the conditions.
I'd definitely be interested if the date works for me!
Sounds like fun! I wish I was available, you'll be in my backyard. You should figure on the road from the Hogtown trailhead lot to Dacy to be closed. I was in there last Sunday and it was...
The trail was pretty easy going with a heavy duty cart(bicycle tires and good clearance). We wore our packs so we could lift over some of the roots. It's wide and rocks aren't too much of an issue,...
Glad to bring back good memories for everyone! It was my first time there, and I'll definitely be going back. It was a nice change from getting snowed on last year at Long Pond :)
It got a little busy given it was a beautiful Columbus Day Weekend, but not too bad. I think the opening of the Essex Chain of Lakes property took away a lot of day trippers that otherwise might...
It was the first hang in almost a year after ground dwelling with the family for my summer trips. The weather for October was amazing, and second only to the beautiful surroundings of Lake Lila. ...
I have a HH Safari, so there's no shortage of room. The SPE keeps it all together very nicely. I sleep like a baby on it, but I only use that combo below 25F. Most often it's the single layer foam...
I cut one Walmart pad to make wings and a torso length pad. I slide those and a thermarest into my SPE and I'm cozy down to around 25F(with warm clothing). If its gonna be colder, I toss in an...
My timing is always too slow... Great deals on those.
Sounds like it's worth a look. I'm anxious to hear how some tests go too!
I too suffer from can'taffordanunderquilticitis and rely on pads and proper sleep wear. I have a HH Safari Deluxe Zip so I had to make a Segmented Pad Extender ala JustJeff's design to help hold...
Uh oh, so using bacon grease to lube my parachord through the nylon might have been a bad idea? :D
Great advice, thank you. Luckily this time of year there are sealed bags of Ice Melt and sand...
Yeah, the loaded diaper imagery just came to me the second I stepped back and saw the botched pin job. I'm glad I could supply a laugh.
The only pics I have are from during the construction of the sock while it was hanging in my "hammock testing grounds" aka the basement. The only changes from these pics are that I cleaned up the...
I had the chance to test the DIY sock this weekend in the Adirondacks. The temps went into the teens and I was toasty(literally hot). I hung without the sock and thermarest in the same temp range a...
And Lost_Biker... The pinning is slow no matter how old your hands.
I got the materials today and had a touch of insomnia so I started sewing tonight. I got the bottom and one of the channels completed before my eyes bugged out. I hope to finish tomorrow and post...
My family is already on the verge of an "intervention"... Wait til they see me loading bags of dog food and rock salt into my hammock. :D
Thanks Lost_Biker. I've got the zip model, so it should be pretty simple to figure out. I just need to recruit someone to occupy the hammock while I pin the material. I'm not sure when I'll have...
Has anyone here made a sock for a HH Safari Deluxe, or recall any threads? I've searched and come up empty. I'm looking at some of the other DIY threads and can probably figure out the necessary...
I've seen a couple posts of Adirondack trips. I'm glad to know there are folks in the area!
Thanks for sharing! I did my first hanging trip in the Long Pond area of St. Regis two weekends ago.
Thanks for all of the warm welcomes!
TallPaul - I confirmed what I had read on here that what works on the ground doesn't cut it in a hammock. A thermarest and blue Walmart pad with lots of...
Hello all, what an amazing resource this site is. I am the proud owner of a HH Safari Deluxe and have happily come off the ground. My first hang is behind me, and I'm not looking back (even despite...
I'm so excited right now... My wife somehow figured out what I was looking for(I'm sure the 24/7 research for 10 days non-stop contributed to this...subtlety was distinctly absent) and has ordered me...

Thanks for the responses so far!

Thanks for the input. I'll be much more on the hiking/backpacking end, that's why I'm wondering if the extra room is worth the extra weight. One pound seems so miniscule at the trailhead...
I'll...
Hey all,
I'm looking to join the growing ranks of hangers, and I am thoroughly impressed with this site! I'm 6'3, 205 lbs and I am looking at the Hennessy Explorer Deluxe and the Safari Deluxe as...
I really want to try hammock camping in a big way. I'm not a small guy (6'4" 210lbs), so I'm looking for either a War Bonnet Black Bird or HH Safari Deluxe.
