There are lots of hanging opportunities in the Chisos Mountains of Big Bend National Park. Virtually all of the backcountry sites there are surrounded by sturdy trees, particularly the ones higher...
Guadalupe River State Park is a nice place to hang. Most of the campsites have bountiful oak trees from which to hang. There are a few hikes in the Park, but all of the trails are fairly short. ...
I used to own a DN and now have a LO. I find the LO to be way more comfortable. The extra 1' in length allows for a much flatter lay than the DN, which is huge for me because I'm a side and...
Welcome from another hombre from San Anto. Here's hoping that Government Canyon opens up to primitive back country camping (and hanging) soon!
Very nice. What a day! The SF is next on my wish list.
BTW, Brute, where exactly in So Tex are you located?
That's interesting. I replaced the suspension in my old ENO DN with Amsteel (basically same size as Whoopies) and didn't really notice any difference in the hang. I was never able to get remotely...
Welcome from San Antonio.
Howdy from San Antonio.
Welcome from San Antonio!
Welcome from San Antonio, fellow Tejano.
Congrats on the new gear. I absolutely love my RR.
Congrats! You're really going to like that hammock.
What is the weight limit of a single-layer hammock using the material from Tablecloth Factory? I plan to make a buddy a DIY hammock, but he's in the 250# range. Do I need to go double layer for him?
Spaceweaseal, what do you do with the doors on the Superfly on the RR? I'm guessing they don't close completely with the suspension triangle, correct? Or can you partially close them and still get...
I'm thinking about doing the same thing on my RR. The WB buckles definitely won't slip on their own, but they're pretty difficult to adjust if there is any load on them. I realize they are more...
Just got back from a quick overnighter at my local state park to test out my new RR. I am thoroughly impressed with this hammock. As I mentioned in my previous post, the construction of this...
What a way to start a weekend! I came home and found a package containing my new RR waiting for me. I immediately set it up in my backyard.
My initial thoughts: wow, this hammock is...
Great thread. Like the rest of the posters here, my best night's sleep in a hammock does not compare to an average night's sleep in my own bed with the comfy sheets, pillows, a/c or heat, fan, wife,...
Great video! I've driven past the Organs many times on my way between the ABQ and Texas. I've always wanted to explore them. They remind me of the mountains on the Patagonia logo.
And thanks...
I ordered my RR last week and just received an email with the hallowed words "Your package is on the way." That's a mighty good turn around time for a cottage industry, IMHO.
Big box online...
Thanks again or all the really excellent information. I am sure glad I have guys like you to help make decisions.
Based on all of the comments, I decided to go with the RR (double layer). I...
It's a DIY Amsteel loop (tied together with double fisherman's knot) threaded through the end channel of the hammock and then wrapped around the cinch buckles.
I will throw in some poly tree...
SOLD....I'm starting to get too many hammocks, so I'm selling my ENO Doublenest. I purchased it new in April of 2012 and slept in it only about 6 times since then. Color is orange with grey sides. ...
Very nice, Caveman. Wish I could have joined you guys.
Please post some pics so those of us who couldn't make it can see what we missed!
Texas Water Safari in June for me. It's a 260 mile canoe race that must be completed in 100 hours or less. I'm planning to hang when we stop each night for a couple hours of sleep.

Here it is. Thanks for the great comparison. I'm leaning a little toward the RR.
And thanks to the rest of you for the recommendation...
I'm such a serious side and front sleeper that I'm seriously considering trying out a bridge hammock. I've been checking out both the WB Ridge Runner and JRB Bear Mountain Bridge.
Has anybody...
Sorry, it looks like the cookset is already sold.
Mods, could you please mark this thread as sold?
It wouldn't be a problem to connect your continuous UQ suspension if you used Dutch ridge line clips. That way, you could easily disconnect your ridge line, pass the UQ suspension over the end of...
Welcome, Shotgun Willie. That's a great name!
"Shotgun Willie sits around in his underwear,
Bitin on a bullet, and pullin out all of his hair...."
/Bump with better pics of cookset. Price is $25, including shipping via FedEx ground to CONUSA (not Priority--I realized it's way more expensive).
...
I lightened my DN by completely removing the stock suspension and replacing it with Dutch cinch buckles and Amsteel. You definitely don't need those stock steel biners. They weigh a ton.
I'm selling my MSR Alpine cookset (stainless) with 2 pots, lid, pot holder, and cookset bag. The pot holder is aftermarket, not original. Small pot has a ding in the bottom, as shown on the pics,...

I had never heard of it until this past weekend when I was in a bookstore and just happened to thumb through...
Looks like you guys had a great trip. Thanks for posting. I need to make it up there and check out that trail some day. If only I had more time....
As much as I wanted to join you guys and meet up with some local hangers, it doesn't look like I'll be able to swing this trip. Keep me in the loop for future hangs, though, and have a great time. ...
I've got a beagle/catahoula mix that goes with me on camping and river trips (except trips to Nat'l Parks where dogs aren't allowed). The biggest concern I would have is making sure your pup stays...
Howdy from San Antonio.
Is that $25 per hammock?! Looks like a nice spot, though. That section of the Medina River is really pretty.
Hey there from Texas. I lived in NM for 6 years. There's tons of good advice in this forum.
Welcome from San Antonio.
I've been using webbing w/ double rings or cinch buckles for a while and just recently bought a WL Lite Owl that came equipped with Whoopies.
I loved the cinch buckle system for simplicity and...
Thanks for the advice, guys. I'm going to try some of those options.
Howdy from Texas. You will love hammock hanging once you try it. Once i tried it, I vowed never to sleep on the ground again if I could help it.
Thanks. Other than needing to follow the suggestions above to keep the UQ in place, my feet got a little cold b/c they were outside of the UQ, so I'll probably add socks and perhaps a small foam pad...
Welcome, fellow Tejano. In your neck of the woods, one of the best backpacking options seems to be the Cross Timbers trail. CaveMan on this site posted an excellent video of a trip there. If...
I owned an ENO DN for several months and recently upgraded to a Wilderness Logics Lite Owl. The Lite Owl is about 1' longer, but is not nearly as wide as the ENO. The Lite Owl is way more...
Here in South Texas, we just had one of our first freezes of the year. Now you northern folk are probably laughing, but freezes are rare where I live and folks down here make a big deal about them. ...
Howdy from a New Texican (a Texan who considers New Mexico his second home state).
As for your question on desert camping: having spent a lot of time in West Texas, finding good hanging spots in...
