the only time I don't like it is when i'm trying to force myself to get to sleep (such as when I...
Lemme get some trip pictures up! Haven't been on the forums for a bit, so I never got around to uploading the few pictures I did end up taking:
Day 1:...
i'm very tempted to build one of these once i move into my apartment this coming semester.
Has anybody had any experience building one that's ~8 feet tall? I basically have a bed (psh... beds.) in...
looks spacious! Nice tarp. Glad to hear your DIY sil went well :) I chickened out and just bought silnylon. haha.
I have a handful of these that i've made out of zing-it. I actually like them a lot! Many more uses than their amsteel counterparts (at least I think so)
Firstly, thanks for the positive feedback!
I don't have any exact numbers, but I used our scale (the kind you weigh yourself on) says it's right around 24 ounces, which seems pretty close to...
I'm interested and might be able to go if it falls somewhere in early august.
But no guarantees because I have about a two week period (August 1st - August 16th) where I have to move up north to...
Firefly, are you trying to make both a topquilt and underquilt out of the SAME sleeping bag? That's what I got out of your post.
seems to me like you could make an underquilt just fine out of, say, half sleeping bag. But my thoughts are that the topquilt would be much harder to make one that would provide comfortable coverage...
thanks! It will get the real test of whether or not it worked next weekend when i take it up to 10000+ feet. Temperatures should be in the high 30's / low 40's.
yeah. each layer is two inches longer and two inches wider than the one above it. so there is a 6 inch difference between the top and the bottom shell. when it's layed out flat, that seems like a lot...
Finally got around to making an underquilt out of the IX I bought from Mac ages ago, this is what came of it:
It's two layers of IX sandwiched in a wally world nylon shell. We'll see how warm it...
how is the strength of the line effected when it is run inside itself? I made one out of 7/64 this morning before work. Any idea on the breaking point of these things?
But good tutorial (again :)...
my zing-it finally came in and i gave one of these a try. all went well other than the opening for the knot seems a little small (when it's all the way opened up).
And a side note to anybody using...
i wonder if it would actually make your head and feet hang lower than your hips, being as the angled lay already flattens out the lay WITH straight cut ends.
glad i could help --- and also know that my tarp design was a collaboration of other ideas I saw on the forums, so I know there are other threads to give you more ideas in a similar realm as what my...
it's an 11' ridgeline on mine, but it's got doors, so those extend out to around 12' 7" or so (if i didn't close them)
Sadly, I don't have enough time actually sleeping under it to give a huge...
good gravy...
Nice!
Could you try just doing some sort of pin assembly where the feet just slide into the 4x4 from the bottom through holes drilled in the 4x4. You could avoid the need for tools.
Not sure about...
i'm not the most experience camper (trust me, i'm not anywhere close) -- mind me asking what sort of things you all use this for?
what? you think you're better than me?
I haven't been on ebay since i got a fraud memory stick a few years ago. I don't trust people any more, haha.
I finished my DIY sil tarp a while ago and skipped cat'ing the sides to keep it simple for my first piece of gear.
There is definitely slack in the tarp (nothing ridiculous, but there...
I was actually shopping around this morning for these:
if you have other things you want to get on amazon, http://www.amazon.com/Sierra-Designs-0009740A00-Grip-Clips/dp/B0017TFPTO
you can get...
and you could easily sew a zipper along it somewhere so that you can just leave it cinched and easily get in/out.
Nice instructions!
there's also a 5 dollar cutting fee with noah, but the price is still excellent. Just a heads up
I had these pages up from a few days ago to see if i had enough money to make one of these:
Conduit
Post
Feet
Obviously, if you dont have the tools to make it, that will run you a bit...
I agree with poppa, I haven't gone through as much seconds as he has, but I bout 10 continuous yards of the stuff and couldn't find a single defect along the whole length of it! Quite happy with that.
The main reason I dont want to mod it is in case I want to use it as a sleeping bag at some point -- not nearly as warm if you can't zip it up ;)
Stumbled across this while surfing around, seems useful -- especially to those on a budget. I'll be trying this out next time I get one in the mail :D
Figured I'd share my findings with people who...
Does anybody know anything about Tempco sleeping bags? I went garage sale shopping yesterday and got a seemingly nice down mummy bag for 10 bucks. But I was wondering if anybody knows anything about...
Nice videos.
But I need to get all my current gear working for me before I dabble in bridge hammocks, haha. It keeps snowing just as it seems like things are going to get nice and stay nice.
Then what's wrong with it being too strong?
mind me asking what you are planning on doing with said webbing? (just curious since you want it at that specific strength)
pretty sure it's 1.9 or the likes.
Edit: At least that's all I've ever found at Joann.
haha.
Mine got here today as well. Many thanks for getting this all organized and taken care of :) and it's a great deal for a custom buff being as they cost more in stores -- and none of those are rockin'...
Where can I get such a thing?
that's ingenious! maybe i'll make myself a cat-cut tarp in the near future...
Yeah -- My ten yards was flawless as far as I could tell, maybe a little extra selvage than is normal, but it was an excellent deal for the price.
yeah, it's really not that bad --- My tarp was one of my few sewing projects, and the biggest by far. No problems at all, just use plenty of pins :)
Well I'll read through a couple of the UQ tutorials again and start making my quilt this weekend if all goes well! Thanks for the quick answers!
I'll be back I run into any snags along the way.
So something else that just came up --- Do people generally prefer to cut out the triangles for the darts then sew them up, or pin it --> sew --> then trim excess?
I made it through a night with nothing but a 0degree mummy bag and it got down to 18degrees. It wasn't comfortable by any means, but it happened. I can only imagine how nice it would have been if i...
Sounds good to me I guess :)
Also, should I dart each layer individually? or pin it all up and do it all together? (I can see how all together can result in some 'less-than-professional'...
Looks very comfy!
The bugnet was playing tricks on my eyes in the first picture, it took me a good 15 seconds to figure it out.
:lol::laugh:
So if I'm planning on making a full length (which i'm looking at about 7 feet right now -- I figured I'd go big, because I can always cannibalize it to make something smaller if it ends up as...
Approximately how many darts does that mean you have along the edges of the quilt?
And how does it being a full length quilt change that you would want it snug against the hammock?
(all these...
no help to your question -- but nice looking bike :)
I made a little quilt (just one layer) that's about 15 x 10 inches.
Based on what I've seen with this one -- it's better to do more smaller darts than fewer bigger ones?
I did three darts to...
