What's the weight? I agree, gear hammock only (unless you have a 10-year old camping with you), but $5 might be worthwhile.
Thanks!

I am not a lightweight backpacker in many more ways than not:rolleyes: . I carry a plastic mallet (made by Coghlan's). It weighs 7 ounces and I have used it even with frozen ground.

The MSR Groundhogs are the best stake I have come across. I have to pound the daylights out of them to get them into the rocky soil where I camp regularly for Boy Scout leader training, and not one...
Les also does not have his camera crew and all their supplies (and a certain safety factor) with him for the whole week. Bear is all show (though good at it). Les is all "go".
Regardless of his product's quality, I am not too keen on the link at the bottom of his home page. I think that's lacking class altogether.
It's the one that begins "If you want to sleep in a...
I had to go through that slide show a second time to notice that there were hammocks in the pictures of the attractive females.
Sorry, somebody had to say it, might just as well be me... ;)
That would be the Winter Building, and it is indeed a great sled run. I was hiking through it on Friday night.
I got to drive the Gator all over the camp, and it has a ton of awesome sites for...
As I mentioned, the Wiggy's bag is extremely lofty, so when you are inside of it, there ain't much dead airspace. I only spent 2 nights in the bag, but found it more difficult to get in and zip up...
I needed a new winter bag for a trip this past February and am a die-hard hammock camper. I have a Stephenson's Warmlite down air mattress (DAM) and a home-brew Speer SPE-type thingie with 3 wings on...
Well, 10 nights at Camp Cutler (for BSA National Youth Leader Training) in a hammock... I'm really going to miss the incredibly comfortable nights sleep!
There was lots of interest in the hammock,...
I was a Scoutmaster for 7 years (am still a troop committee member) and I am now the coordinator for outdoor adult leader training for the Council. I have been preaching the gospel according to...
Make your double sheet bend slipped by passing a loop rather than the end under the second time around. This works with webbing as well as rope. Being able to pull on the rope on both sides of where...
Very cool, thank you.
Is that price per foot or per yard, do you know? If not, I will call REI. I am definitely interested in getting some of this cord.
Dave
Where in the product description does it say that it's reflective? It sounds like it would solve two issues if it's both reflective and glow-in-the-dark... GITD only does not do much for me.
Maybe...
Your "hijacking" has been a lot more fun than I could have hoped for!!! :D
There are a lot of reasons I am glad I'm a guy. My wife is at the top of that list, but that web page with all those...
Yeah, I agree. You only got 7 years on me, though. And the older I get, the less likely I am to want to go anywhere unnecessarily, especially in the cold. Age WAS the reason I started hammocking, my...
Consuming more liquids than usual was the case (water, not "liquids"). We were on an adult Scout leader training, and for most of us, this was a reasonably new activity (hiking in snowshoes up a hill...
Sorry, I tried to make the title a little tactful . This really applies only to guys.
It was brought up on Yahoo a year or so ago, but I knew I could never do the acrobatics that Ed...
Just an update on those 500kg biners-
I used them last weekend and was perfectly fine with them. Before I left, I hung my hammock in the basement (the floor joists are perfectly spaced!), sat in...
I use webbing on the trees, clip the biner to the webbing, then tie the ropes from my hammock, gear hammock and tarp to the biner. I use Technora T100 rope (5mm) on my hammock.
I like this because...
Not to be rude and bring this back on topic or anything <grin> but my biners (the ones mentioned a few pages ago) just came in today. I have a hard time believing that these things are rated at 1100...
I use the ridgeline primarily to keep the bugnet (or, when I finish it, spindrift tube/sock thingie) off of my face and to hang my glasses and headlamp on at night. It's under tension, not sagging,...
This is just my opinion, and I have a top-loading (Speer-type) hammock, not a Hennessey, but I use 550 cord (real stuff) for the ridgeline and I like it a lot. The little bit of stretch is perfect,...
I have never had condensation under my tarp in my hammock. I have, however, experienced condensation under a tarp when sleeping (or trying to sleep) on the ground under one. In both cases, there was...
Thanks for sharing your experience. Your report content is (imo) exactly what new hammockers need to read. No nonsense, no jargon or excess info (I get too caught up with all that, personally), and I...
No sleep on ground in Spring.
No sleep on ground in Summer.
No sleep on ground in Fall or Winter.
I noticed a pattern (it takes me a while).
Read Allen Leigh's article on camping in...
Merry Christmas everyone.
Got a Life is Good shirt with the dude in a hammock between two pines.
Life IS good!
I've been hanging around trees for almost 4 years now, and I am thankful to

Got it, read it, read it again, loaned it out several times already.
If you are at all new to hammock camping, this is a must-read. If you've been hammock camping for a while, this is a must-read....
That's funny! Posting on page 59 of 63 "Help with some Math Please" on WB and you're asking for a halt after just two here. ;)
Do they have a website?
Neo, when you mentioned that the cover can be left behind (in your other post, I believe), you said that this reduced the weight by something like 2 lbs. Does that mean that this bag weighs around...
My lowest recorded temp in a hammock is -1*F inside a detached garage (colder outside but no wind at all in the garage). This was a test to prepare for a winter campout. I was inside a 25* EMS poly...
Neo, I noticed that the bag was described as "Adult medium size". I'm 5'9" and 195lbs. Compared to you, would you say that the bag is big enough or too small?
You are indeed the King of Bargains!
Miguel-
Though I believe that most of the regular posters on this and other Hammock forums use quilts or use their bags as quilts, I know that there are many among us who prefer to be zipped up in...
You can always unsubscribe to anything. It's called choice.
Sorry, that was snotty, I apologize, but nothing is ever perfect, and I think that people forget that they can always turn the channel...
Okay, so if you have a ridgeline on a Speer-type hammock that you leave in place when you stow the hammock, how do you get the thing into skins? I untie one end of my ridgeline every time so I can...
Okay, I feel better now, for a long time I was worried that Neo's real last name was going to end up being Anderson...
