I ordered a 700 fill down king size pillow from Overstock.com today .... next project is a new down top quilt.

Well, I did put a roll top on mine making it a 2200 cu in pack.

I would agree with this as well .... the thick quilt took up a lot of room in the pack. But since I don't normally use much of my extension collar, it wasn't a big deal.

How does it translate to under insulation? Any ideas?

For ground sleeping ...

1 layer of 2.5 is good to 45 degrees
2 layers of 2.5 or one layer of 5.0 is generally good to 25 degrees

1 layer of 2.5 and 1 layer of 5.0 should be good to 5- 10...

Down is not as picky about being squished .... synthetics, well, once you squish them a bit too much they never come back all the way.

I'm hoping for 400 or less.
