It is a 3-season yeti, non-WP down, produced mid-2010, I used it maybe a dozen times, stored hung, no known issues.
Thanks for the six moons pointer there are actually cheaper options on sale in...
I'm planning for a trip to Philmont Scout Ranch and will need to revert to ground-dwelling for a time.

There is really only one answer. It has to be the people, without them the site would be pretty lonely all by myself. ;-)
I learn something new almost every day I am here.
MSH for the win! I've never had a problem used with thin TI spikes.
I am hoping to hammock next week on vacation so I contacted Mr. Madden and got the following reply.
I have not heard back from Mr. Bateman, but the email address copied is...
Great report!
I just signed on to an early May Hermit Trail backpacking trip where I will get my first taste of the Grand Canyon. I asked the group leader about hammock use and was told that most...
Welcome, I work in Louisville and have read about the challenge longingly, but it just isn't a possibility at this point in my life. Between the family and scouts it seems like almost every weekend...
My first hammock purchase was a Hennessy Expedition Asym from the Hennessy Odds and Ends sale for $69. After using it I noticed some additional damage not noted and was sent was sent a new...
Given your updated criteria, if I were going netless, which it appears you are from your current selections, I would look strongly at the offerings form Warbonnet Outdoors. They are not the lightest...
If a bug net is not necessary DIY is the way to go.
If a bug net is necessary, the grand trunk skeeter beater on amazon for less than $50 is a great starter hammock.

Welcome from Troop 4036 in New Albany, IN.
As a scouter I am the only one to full time hammock in our troop. Worked great on our trip to northern tier last summer!
I plan to do something similar only replacing the whoopie with a length of amsteel line attached to a tree hugger. The dogbone on the hammock then just loops over a marlin-spike hitch in the amsteel....
I'm in. Thanks!
Nice work! I like the double middle. I doubt you would even need that to be removeable. Not much more weight, just a bit of "overfill" where it is needed most to make up for the sew-through design.

Great idea. Made me start asking questions...
Why are we using whoopie slings?
What does the sliding toggle add (other than being a toggle keeper)? You could use the same setup with a toggle...
I have a insultex quilt and it does not really compress. It is thin enough that it folds and rolls pretty small.
These are measurements for my 4XL.
Total jacket 13.2 oz, sleeves only, 3.2 oz (10 oz w/o sleeves).
5ft laid open after opening the sides, 30 in. shoulder to waist.
I was considering a double layer as you suggested. However, I would not sew them together so I still had the option to use one for warmer weather. I was thinking velcro or maybe even buttons around...
After removing the sleeves and opening at the sides, one 4XL looks like it is going to fit the Ridge Runner pretty well. There is about a foot left exposed at each end.
At this point it is no sew...
Great, I'll try the sleeves. I tried the bottom grosgrain, but that opened into down. Next I tried the side seam for the back panel, but after removing some of the nylon grosgrain it did not appear...
At my store the normal sizes were $20, but the Big and Tall sizes (in that department of the store) were $14.
I picked up a couple 4XL for a RidgeRunner UQ. Laying shoulder to shoulder on top of the hammock they seem an almost perfect fit for the hourglass shape. I'm thinking I may be able to cut the sides...
Are you aware of the current conditions? I believe there are still closures from the tornados that went through. When I checked last week I believe it was expected to be closed until fall, but I no...

In, thanks!
