only in the rain...
I cinch my ridgeline down as tight as practical. IMO, the tarp is stressed less by a taut pitch than a looser pitch constantly "rolling" in the wind. Wind constantly beating on a loose sail creates...
I use the gear hammock from JRB...

...and sometimes the bushman hammock chair from AHE to keep my gear off the ground under my tarp.

I think the BRT is more scenic than the OHT...especially the section around Steel Creek area. You'll either need to arrange for a shuttle between trail heads or do an out and back.
Another option...
This is a trip in the Buffalo River area of Ozarks. That is a JRB gear hammock. It's not as versatile as my AHE chair, but still handy.

I use sil-nylon skins on my Superfly and CF skins on my CF Winter Palace. Both sets are 2-piece skins which I think are easier to deploy from each end (meet in the middle) rather than a 1-piece...
I've gotten away from the continuous ridge line on my tarp, but when I used one I always liked it under the tarp for the sole reason that it provided a great "clothes line" to hang the day's socks,...
I have some of that same gear and predict you will be very pleased with it. Curious to hear how you're packing your flyfishing gear but that may need another thread... Enjoy your new gear!
If you're going to use snakeskins for your tarp storage, it is easiest to roll your tarp up tightly while still suspended...then just slide the snakeskins over the rolled up tarp. Just reverse the...

I'd love something like this that could hold 12-14 stakes - even at the expense of losing the cordage storage. Any chance of a custom order? Nice work.
Like many, I started hammocking with a sleeping bag because I already owned one. Eventually, I bought a TQ and now own 3 of them - and never consider using a bag in my hammock. For me, it wasn't a...
Here are a few photos in daylight that may give you a better idea of degree of translucency:

IMO, if you are camping at public campgrounds then the translucency of the CF would be a detriment. However, I would question why you need a CF tarp if your primary camping is at public campgrounds....
I own the Superfly and the HG CF WP. Both offer equal protection and have same setup effort.
To me, the CF is noticeably louder during rain event. I take ear plugs to avoid the popcorn popper...
...so has anyone ever "worn out" a down quilt because it would no longer loft up - and disposed of it? I've got to think that my down quilts will outlive me.
In addition to being an easy chair, this works great as a gear hammock that can be hung underneath your hammock or parallel to it. Great product.

Here is photo of the Dutch Fleaz on small CL on tarp tie-out. I don't use shock cord on my CF tarp but add shock cord to the Fleaz in my sil SF tarp

I leave guylines tied to the stakes...then just wrap the lines around the stake for storage. Dutch fleaz on small continuous loop on the tarp make setup quick and easy to adjust from under the tarp. ...
Here is my CF tarp / Dutch setup:

Wonder how the standard UQ is going to pair with the wide Chameleon? Laying too much on the diagonal often creates air gaps in the UQ...

Buffalo River Trail in North Arkansas is a great backpacking trip.
I owned both... and eventually sold my JRB quilts. There was nothing wrong with the quality... I just found the HG suspension easier to dial in and adjust. You can over think this - really don't...
If you already have the BA sleeping bag then use it until you can upgrade. However, I would not recommend purchasing a new one to use in a hammock unless you also intend to use it to go to ground. ...
You can sometimes reduce the calf-ridge by planting your rear in the hammock and using your hands and feet to "sweep" or "push" the center ridge out to the edges of the hammock.
In all but the driest of seasons, there are ample run-offs, creeks, or streams that cross the trail and are more than sufficient for harvesting water. Not much of the trail has easy access to the...
Hammocks are ideal in this area because there are lots of trees and mostly rocky ground. I always have easier time finding a good hang spot along the trail than my companions with tents. I avoid...
I hiked the entire trail in 2014... great hike and November is a great time for the BRT. All of the sections are great - my favorite is area on each side of Steel Creek. We always planned our hikes...
Ditto on the Hammock Gear quilts... I suggest getting your TQ/UQ to match colors. Many people end up with multiple quilts with a range of temperature ratings. The colors help quickly identify which...
Nothing beats being in the hammock on a clear night without a tarp to block the view... but there's not much worse than waking up with wet quilts. It's easier to predict rain when deciding whether to...
I use the 2-piece CF snake skins for my Winter Palace... fits great and very light weight. Agree with above that no wet tarp is going to dry inside any type of snake skins.

Not many leaves in the Ozarks yet.

+1: same equipment, same strategy, same results.
Ford or Chevy? Coke or Pepsi? Ginger or Mary Ann? ...not a right or wrong answer. Both fine choices.

Final effort to sell.... great Spring quilt for someone.
Nice find and DIY project. Just curious: how does the synthetic weight and compressibility compare to its down counterpart?
How tall are you? IMO, using a 3/4 UQ as a 3 or 4 season quilt gets "iffy" when you're much over 6'-0" tall - because the extra pad you have to bring doesn't save much on weight or bulk relative to...
Enjoyed looking at your pics.... I love looking at the AT scenery and terrain, but can't imagine spending nights on the trail in one of those shelters - especially behind a chain link fence. Seems...
