I feel I get better UQ performance when I don't use the tie outs. It allows the sides of the UQ to come up the side of the hammock body. I've tried both ways, I like it sans tie outs.

Big tarp will help cut the wind too. Think Superfly or other XL tarp.

Bite the bullet and get the zipper mod done. UQ with the bottom entry works, but you need to adjust the UQ a little once you're in. It's a pain to do with the bottom entry.

Hate to say it, but you've got gaps in your UQ. The foot area is prone to the condition. Like silent chad said, have someone lay in the hammock and you can investigate what's going on with the UQ.
